Hi all.

I am so far not been a Range Rover driver. But, we are now looking for a larger car, with 4x4 and comfort for the family.
So, the Range Rover is on my mind, looks great and what a comfort.

The RR I am thinking looking at is a Vogue V8TD 2007 with 100 000KM, one owner all service done at dealer.

Any information on what to look out for? Any big problems?
How is the rust protection on these models?

All help/tips is welcome.

Think that's a bit young for most people on here. Might be mistaken. General advice is that if there is even the slightest hint of a fault, anywhere, no matter how small, walk away. These cars will empty your purse like no other when things start going wrong.

I'll let more experienced members take you through the rest of the pitfalls!
 
the later model is supposed to be a lot more reliable..

thing is, theres not many members on here with the newer Range Rovers plus they havent reached an age where the car is old enough to start developing faults.

so its sort of the unknown ! :p

eitherway you have the right idea of what to get.

the V8 TD / jag engine is supposed to be wicked.

and mated to a reliable gearbox is a plus !

The TDV8 is simply Awesome....

Mated to a decent box too...so no major worries there....just keep to the service schedule....

Only thing I have read about is it seems to go through Alternators at 60k mile intervals for some reason....haven't really dug deeper to find out...so 100k km's is around failure time....

Hate to point you to another forum, but fullfatrr.com cater for the younger L322's.....LZ are slowly catching up....but you will find loads of info on the later models on there....

Ah, now you mention it I think MrGorsky knows someone who has one. I think I've heard the alternator story but I also heard the turbo blew at 60k. Might just be an unlucky chap or two.

I've a feeling one model needs the body off for easy access to the turbo but cannot remember which. That sounds a pain!
 
The sport and discovery models often need the body shell removed for some works to be carried out

The l322 doesn't have those problems

Ok, I will ask and look into the turbo/alternator and se if anything has been done with it.

A Range Rover will empty a healthy bank balance rapidly if you can't DIY or Diagnose your own repairs....they need constant attention....

A Range Rover and a budget are not good bed fellows.....
 
Oh..Ok.

Sounds a bit scary...But, still, oh it is a nice car, how it drives and feels.
Not easy.

Guess one have to pay a bit more for that luxury, feel and looks, compared to a more boring German or Japanese 4x4, the RR has the feeling of having a soul to me.

If you want reliable, go Toyota or even a Pajero:)
 
Yeah, well told Datatek:)

But, I want more comfort and a different feeling.
Never been a LR owner, but did try a Discovery 4 in Germany as a rental car, and that was what started me wanting a LR.

For sure you get a different feeling with a RR, either grazed knuckles from DIY repairs or the empty wallet feeling if you use a garage:rolleyes:

You jest, it would be gone in a flash if I had the cash to replace it. The are crap and because they are crap they are cheap secondhand which put the thing into my price range. No other reason, I do not, like Saint V8, worship the marque to the point that I'm blind to it's many failings:mad:

I'm not blind to their failings...my bank balance is testiment to that for sure!! :D:D:D

But I just don't care...I have a wonderful Girlfriend who puts up with the running costs, she drives a small cheap to run car, I don't live in a big house, and as I have mentioned before - aslong as I am careful with my pot of money when it comes to the inevitable repairs...we can live in harmony together...

I am able to DIY most of my repairs, I have a good boss who understands the 'spontanious' day off needed to fix something...and if the vehicle is off the road for a few days, he is willing to lend me one of our pool vehicles (one of which is a Defender 90! which I usually go for) for a few days while I sort it out!

I go into Range Rover ownership well and trully 'eyes wide open' and I urge others to do the same...I love Range Rovers and am a big fan of the LR marque...but yes they will tax your paitience and your bank balance...but I wouldn't have it any other way :D
