after buying my td90 from ebay for £820 in need of a bit of work cambelt had snapped but replaced but still ran crap after replacing bent pushrods it was still rough the found out one of the cam followers had broke so time for the head off finding cracks in all four pistons thought the best way round it was to buy a tdi engine

searching the net for hours for a cheap disco rang up loads and finally got one in london had a look at it clutch had gone but engine sounded very nice aircon remote locking with only 65000 miles on the clock very smelly inside but not been run since march managed to buy it for £275 bargan or what expect it had another speedo but who knows

yes it is a 200 engine ment to say 200 in the post anyway whats wrong with aldershot terry did u do the conversion you self?

the old td engine is out :) my first land rover engine gonna get some one to steam clean the engine bay its so oily but thats a good thing coz there is no rust :) whats the best stuff to coat the engine bay ?

Just about to go through the same thing myself :D

My old TD went pop so here it is ready to pull out. Think I've removed everything bar the bellhousing bolts now so once they're off it "should" just lift out (yeah right).

And here is the Disco donor - bought for the princely sum of 350 quid. Clock showing 150k but engine was rebuilt at 120k. Runs lovely - not a jot of smoke and starts straight up every time :)

I'd be glad of any tips for removing the Disco engine. I downloaded a copy of the "200TDi into TD" Land Rover manual which listed the steps for removing the TD. Could do with something similar for the Disco now...

Nice one mate .. if you need any help give us a call.

i was gonna take out the plates around the bulkhead inside untill you have to take up all the floor too so i undid the engine mount rubbers lifted the engine upabit took them out then you can get to the top bolts easier i found it easier to get the 2 bolts on top of the clutch slave cylander with a extention and uj from under the engine and they were all done up fkin tight :)

itsbeen a while since my last post

engine is now in and running been round the field a few times and its running so much better took me a while to get the engine in i replaced the 200 flywheel housing with the td one and fitted all the studs in the holes and after 2 hours trying to get it in i realized the stud behind the clutch slave cylinder is not ment to be in there doh! i was going to fit the rad to the original mounts as it still fits under the bonnet but i wanted to keep the bonnet stay mount bar so i decided to cut down the mounts the intercooler pipes i bought a brand new 90 bend off eBay for a tenner and found some 50mm stainless bar in the shed bottom intercooler pipe was cut and welded for a slight bend and had to cut a bit of inner wing out because i did not want to squash the 90 bend and the top intercooler pipe was straight using the disco rubber tube the oil cooler pipes in the 90 fitted straight on the power steering return pipe was used from the 90 but i used the pressure one from the disco re bent not pretty but it works fine
only thing to do now is to fit the air box im going to bolt it to the bolt holes on the left of the engine as there is loads of space there and give it a good service cam belt oil filters :) then it time to play as ive never been off road before this will be fun :)

Assuming the disco shell is going to the scrapper, cut the front panel out and lift the engine and gearboxes out in one lump. The separate them outside of the disco. The only thing that's awkward to get at is the bell housing bolts really.
