Hi All,

Not the best start to the day, my exhaust has snapped off at the back box.

I am going to order a new one today, my question is with the exhaust now being so short and close to the petrol tank, is it safe to drive it 6 miles or so.

Thanks

John

Unless your tank leaks and your engine regularly spouts flames out of the exhaust I wouldn't worry overly

It's your judgement call dude. it's not really a case of safe/ not safe - as it's broken it is now less safe than it was... Do you personally think the hot gasses pose a risk to melting of the petrol tank? Are you Personally prepared to accept the consequences if it does?
If it's snapped off ANYWHERE under the car, then it's not technically road legal as it would fail an MOT.
I'm not saying Yay or Nay on wherther it's safe to drive as is - I used to drive mine without the back box but that was my choice.

Your going to order a new one today, so your not showing signs of being a muppet who will run about like this until the next MOT - you will be fine with it, before my 300tdi got its rebuild the exhaust fell off from the mid box, so it was driven about for the last week before it went off the road with a piece of scaffolding tube shoved deep inside the remaining bit of exhaust to extend it long enough that I could then drill a hold through the scaffolding to wire the exhaust onto the hanger.

It was blowing exhaust directly at the tank, no issues.
