Hi all, ive been on this forum about 2 years now, haven't really posted but would like to thank you for all the info/pictures/parts/idea's and help ive found from searching through the forum!!:D

i thought id share some photos of my discovery's,

i bought a discovery 1 300tdi about 2 years ago and ive loved it, had some fun in the winter and enjoyed driving it but lately decided id like something abit more daily driver.

i love my 300tdi too much to get rid so decided on an early td5 as a daily driver and then eventually use the 300tdi for fun. Possible off road/bobtail conversion.

im hoping eventually to meet us with some of you for some greenlaning or meets

the 300tdi is a 1997 with approx 163k, and the td5 is a 1999 es with 113k

so here goes,

thanks;)

Good man :)

Welcome to the rot club :D

IMO please do not bobtail the D1 it's a waste of a lovely useful bodyshell and there are far too many abortions on eBay that have already been chopped up readily available, but otherwise it seems like you have got it nailed.

Nicely done.

Local too :)

hi my noisy,

thanks for the kind words

i know what your saying about the bobtail, i want to start using the 300 as abit of a toy and just thought it may be more fun bobtailed.

still havent made my mind up but ill keep you informed

thanks

I'm with Sam on the not bobtailing - You can generally find a way round / over an obstacle that would damage your arse if you're careful...

... maybe I coulda put that better....

I've never seen full length roof rails before, I'm jealous. Can you get them for the D1?

Seeing as the roofs are practically identical and I'm sure the rails are actually the same (except on an ES PREMIUM) then yeah i bet you could have a go at fitting them.

But it's just finding a set that would be impossible! :D

Well i havent done any cutting yet, its just parked up
In the garage!

Maybe i should use it as it is for abit and see how it goes
And then decide! Ive been collecting a few off road bits so
You might see me out greenlaning!!!

I agree about the roof rails fitting, the roofs themselves look
Identical, if i see any full length rails ill let you know

Ignore all the haters! :D
It's a huge improvement losing that arse overhang, bob's look just as good if done well.
You seem to have the space and availability to do it and spend some time on it!
There are a couple threads here on how to do it.

Im a mechanic myself so ive got the tools, space and lots of time!!

I do prefer the look of the bobtail when done right!
I seem a few rough jobs and i see why people dont like
Them!!
