only got this recent pic (friday night) of my disco on a green lane in derbyshire, not much done to it as yet apart from diff guards, pump mod and doing a few bits of trim etc. that needed replacing/fixing.

erm...a few but nothing drastic to be honest mate.

i would like a steering guard, snorkel, proper tyres (something i need to research first) roof lights and a 2" lift.

lastly i need to sort the stereo out, as the standard speakers are pish, otherwise thats about it for now, maybe a bumper and winch down the line too

You want some of these....

your right, i would love some of them.

might be on the cards down the line though, for now i have a box and amp to fit but ill do it all in one go once i can get some speakers bought, the standard yoghurt pots with bits of string attached are rubbish on anything other than radio 2.....

dont have a clue mate, which way would you reckon will be best??

bearing in mind its a family car too, so safety is of the highest priority.

sorry to sound thick but im still very new to this as you can probably tell......:rolleyes::rolleyes::eek:

Do it properly! Springs and shocks... research as much as you can and decide what set up is best for you. If your road biased and reguarly taking the family round your probably not gonna want supersoft springs suited to trialling, do you ever tow?

All depends what you use it for. Blocks are a quick fix if you havn't got time or a cheap fix if you can't afford to do it properly in my opinion. Why would you run a lift with standard shocks/springs? Seems daft to me!

thanks for that mate, very useful, well its mainly road use but with the odd laning trip/play day thrown in.

yes it will be towing eventually, sold my caravan to fund this but will be having another once i get the disco sorted and started saving up again.

when doing a lift im guessing the flexi hoses would need to be longer too??
also will be going with some more agressive tyres too but again mainly road use type.

thats why im trying to do the simpler things first, at least i can kinda work out whats best there :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Personally I have spacers as don't warrant the springs and shocks I do have +2 front shocks as well and rear shock droppers that compliment it I have extended my front bump stops to suit the shocks and bought extended hoses

Just how I wanted to do it as didn't see the point in buying the shocks springs and all that just for a toy replace them when they need it IMO I paid £90 for all spacers and the heavy duty shock droppers

I would definately get a set of BFG mud terrain tyres great off road and ive just driven to Ireland and back on them with almost no road noise, they are simply brilliant

does that come as a kit?? and how easy is it to fit something like that??

also on another note whilst updating my thread, since owning the disco, the gear lever has rested between 1st and 2nd gates over to the left but springs back to there and to the right normally, now its taken a little getting used to but im there now, odd miss of a gear but nothing too bad.

so today while doing a couple of small jobs i thought i would have a nosey round and see what could be wrong, so looking down where the gear lever goes into the box the spring is like a fork that goes either side the shifter to keep it centred, then noticed something moving when wiggling from side to side.....
removed it and its the tab that goes between the spring and mounts onto the top of the box, been like that a while too by the looks of it, so is this a changable part or not?

guess its another strike against the garage where i got it from.........

Personally I'd go with some HD springs then. I'm in a similar situation to you although its not my daily drive any more. I run Bearmach HD springs and its drives perfectly fine on the road and is more than capable off road!

Shocks are your own choice, depends how far you want to go, if you do get longer rated shocks don't forget the bump stops/extended brake hoses though!

If you wanna go the whole hog (I don't see the point in doing things by halves) then get uprated turrets, HD turret rings, HD spring retainers, new spring cups and uprated/new shock mounts for the rear. Dislocation cones and new nuts and bolts for all parts... then get wide angled props, whilst your doing that get a 4 bolt diff flange for the rear diff to get rid of that stupid rubber donut and whilst your there get cranked arms front ant back.

There's plenty to it - I'd do some reading and decide what you want to do and what suits your needs mate!

Comes separate but you have my number gimmie a shout its only a place at Rotherham and its easy on rears can be a #### on the front tbh and can cause problems if you have rotten or ####ed parts :)

thanks guys, theres plenty there for me to absorb now.

is there any particular brands to steer clear of??
