Hi
I have a 1999 TD5 Defender 110.
I have noticed over the past couple of weeks that the brakes have felt a bit spongy. There has been a bit more travel on the brake pedal than usual.
On Monday, there was **** loads of travel and the brakes only worked on the very last half inch of the full travel of the pedal. Pretty scary!!!
The pads and discs are good, and the brake fluid is topped up without any loss.
Since then, the brakes have come back completely........Weird

Any ideas????

Many Thanks

You've noticed a deterioration of your brakes over a two week period and continued to drive your vehicle.:eek::eek:

Oh dear that a good thing to know!!

There are actually people out there who continue to drive a 2tonne vehicle without brakes working!!

But it's ok cos of engine braking, hell! you can even control a 48 ton lorry with engine braking, just so long as **** all gets in your way.;)

FFS like none of us ANGELS have never driven More cautiously with a known fault at some time or other.

Right serious question. have you checked your wheel bearings? any noise other than usual?

99% of the usuals here would fail a roadside checks so yes the guy should get it sorted lets help and stop moaning for the sake of it

Cheers for the help.
I haven't checked the wheel bearings, but I haven't noticed anything un towards with vibrations etc.etc.
It feels like it could be a vacuum pump issue????
This problem is intermittent as the brakes are completely normal again.

Mine did this.

Sticky calliper boiling the brake fluid was the cause.
