I bet they start moving when you tell them you will be getting a hire car of equivalent size for when yours fails the MOT.
 
Ok don't shoot me I haven't read every single update. Having worked in the insurance industry for + 10yrs (ok not doing so now) and also involved in a similar rear end shunt in dec 2013, my advice would be to claim off your own insurance and get them to recover costs from third party. This would also cover any hire car costs and if you have motor legal protection, they will claim back your excess as well. I know it's not an easy fix but in the long run, it will get your car back on the road ASAP and leave them to fight over costs.

I'm insured with direct line and they are highly recommended in my book. As I had a mini 4x4 in dec the hire car co could not give me an exact like for like replacement so I ended up with a free upgrade to a merc e class for 4 weeks! As soon as other insurers admitted liability - which was pretty darned fast, direct line claims dep reimbursed me my excess. All in all had accident 16th dec and received cheque around 9th jan there or there abouts.

Your own insurers would not have dragged their heals as long as you submitted 2 estimates for repair and they would have gone with the cheapest repair bill......they have to be seen to take the more cost effective approach.

They also don't cover you for green lane insurance unfortunately

And having been informed that claiming on my insurance will affect my no claims with three vehicles to insure I won't recover those costs back when I get hammered on renewal time :(

green lane is still designated public highway and requires insurance tax and mot where applicable, so should be covered as it is no different to any other road

if your insurer can recover their costs from 3rd party, you can apply for the uplift in your premiums as part of your costs from 3rd party

Had long conversations with several companies most say they will not cover you on a green lane and needs to be a specific insurances stating it covers green lanes. My previous insurer said in no uncertain terms they don't include greenlanes even though classified as public highway. Always worth checking with insurer as they seem to regularly take this stance. Which was why I ended up through Adrian flux

It's stupid really isn't it - should we all be checking that we're covered on motorways - don't think my policy specifies motorways :eek: and what about those dreaded B roads - they tend to be small, doubt they're covered as standard...

What is a definition of a green lane? I know small roads with grass down the middle - does that make them green or is green only if there is enjoyment in driving it? In which case, some lanes are very boring...
 
Ombudsman it is and it shows exactly how little concern the company have for customers.
