Ok thanks everyone got some mx5 seats. Will they go in the space or do I move the bulkhead behind the seats further back. Don't want to but will if I must. Which runners do I use. Never done this before so any info will be appreciated thanks. 1973 series 3

Got a big van for carrying stuff. A panda for asda. A yamaha for some fun and A SWB LANDROVER for even more fun. Only asked for a bit of help !

I've both, the proper one still works for a living, the short one is a toy.

The proper one will take a variety of seats, as there's space behind the seats, the SWB is less versatile.

I've a pair of Mk1 Mx5 seats that I'm looking at fitting in our 1986 Ninety, not quite an S3 but similar....

only issue I can see is that access to the voids below the seatbox will be problematic - on the Ninety the battery lives below the passanger seat unlike S3's underbonneto_O

My battery is bellow seat as well in a stainless box welded in .the seats are now in and fit well. The seats have a piece off 50 X 50 box section to support the rear mounting as i have used the Mazda runners . The box section makes the seat sit at a sensible position on landy seat box which slopes .I have hinged the passenger seat at the front for access to the battery box . You can easy get stuff in and out but battery removal includes seat removal (4 bolts).

@Zed. , why MX5 seats for your Ninety rather than RX8 seats? Can recommend a fine pair of leather jobbies in the Ninety, ala my old bus.

erm, I have a pair of Mk1 (NA model code) Mx5's:cool:

a standard resto-case 'G' reg Eunos Roadster (Feb '90) and a 'J' reg (Nov '91) Eunos Roadster that can supply the seats as this one is slowly becoming a competition car - the expensive way:oops:

great little cars but on par with Landrover money-pittiness:confused:

Hey, I've got some MK1 MX5 seats for my 90 that I'm looking to fit, do you by chance have any tips/suggestions/photos of how you did this? As far as I can see the rails are slightly too narrow to clear the battery cover tray so I'm a bit stuck...

Cheers

Far better to recondition the original seats. Retrim kits are available, and if the covers are in a good enough condition you can just get the internal foam parts. Decades of age and drivers' arses sliding in and out causes the foam to crumble and go lumpy. When they're in a good state they are actually quite comfortable, and then you don't have to mess about fitting in alternatives that don't fit properly and impede access to the battery...

Yeah, it's a Ninety though so it would have had those series seats that are basically a board of wood with foam on top of them, if those seats had survived pre-restoration.

They didn't though, and I have a good set of mx5 seats ready to go in that cost me a tenner. eBay seems to think that a pair of genuine used defender seats will set me back £250+

My son's Ninety didn't have Series seats in it, his Series did though.
We could spend the day in the Series without a problem with Britpart Series "deluxe seats".
The Exmoor trim retrim set, with foam, are comfy enough in his Ninety.
