Hi again

Can anyone please tell me how I un-mute the radio on my 95 Range Rover. I seem to have pressed something and the radio display keeps flashing up "MUTE".

Please help

Regards
Matt

You just have to take all the power off the radio, either by disconnecting the battery or taking out the relevant fuses. Then it will come back as normal. Make sure you have the radio code handy.

I have the same problem every so often. Seems to stem from using the fast forward or back buttons on the steering wheel. It normally goes off again after a while, 5 mins to 1 day!..after pressing the same buttons again a few times!
Any "techies out there that can say why it happens?. talked to a radio repair person and looked at the manual, and it shouldnt even do "mute", unless it is a hangover from the mobile phone wire in?

You guys have encontered a very common problem with the steering wheel switches. Bad/ Dirty connections on the wheel switches are sending a incorrect signal to the radio which it interprets as a mute signal from a mobile phone. Best fix for this is a set of new switches - dont panic they are only about £30 for the lot and is an easy 20 min job. Make sure you have a realy tiny torx bit to undo the securing screws for the switches, dont know the correct size but it was smaller than my set went down to.

Disconnect the battery first (reading handbook first) then remove the airbag module by undoing 4 screws behind the steering wheel boss - a little awkward if the engine is not running, as you have to turn the wheel to get the screws into an accesible position....

Job done.
