I am looking to buy new tyres to my Defender 110 300 Tdi. I have a set of BFG A/T 265/75/16 currently on my Td5, the performance of these have led me to the choice of BFG M/T KM2 for my 300 Tdi.
However, I am unsure of which dimension to choose. I am currently looking at either the standard 235/85/16 or the slightly higher 255/85/16 to mount on a set of modulars. I have read a lot of threads that the 255 sort of are ok on a non-lifted Defender (very little rubbing), but would preferably be coupled with a small lift.
I have searched all over internet for good pictures showing the difference between the two without much success. I would be very greatful for any posted photos of these dimensions fitted onto a Defender (preferably the KM2, but KM1 would look similar I am sure).
Even similar dimensions of other manufacturers would be of value to judge for myself what size would be the best.

Not quite what you asked for but have a look here

just to change the mood slightly

(BFG are unstoppable by the way! (this ought to start a debate))

i need some 35/12.5/15 KM2 muds if anyone knows of any. I can get hold of a set of five but can only afford two and i only need two. if anyone else wants to go for three or maybe individual spares maybe we could chip in to get the set. (£600 for five in good condition)

BFG = punctures

go for kumaho or coopers.

Just spent three weeks off road in the stony hammada of Sahara with BFG A/T's over thorny desert bushes and sharp rocks all day, not a single issue despite the tyres used are in less than perfect condition. I was quite impressed as I expected punctures... :D

I would go for 265/75 16 Cooper STT's I am on my second set now after by BFGs and they are excellent in the wet and mud, £400 for four fitted at National Tyres and I sold my old ones with around 4mm left on them on Ebay

Dad runs the old style BFGs (KM1) in 255 85 r16 on his 90. they up the gearing a nice ammount.

They also stand exactly the same height as my 285 65 r 16 coopers (33.3 inches)

What I am looking for is just pictures of Defenders with the above mentioned tyres. I have not been able to find images on the internet that both show these and tell what dimensions they are. It's always either or, unfortunately. :rolleyes:
Are you going to compete in RTV style trials at all?

The narrower 235 will offer more lock and a tighter turning circle.

Not sure I can help with both tyre sizes, but these are what I can do:

I have been running 255/85s for a while now. the new KM2s are awesome. I would either go 265/75 or these 255/85s. If your leaving it stock 265, if you want to raise it an inch or more 255. I would leave 235s alone. The 255s give you a good extra height and space under the diff. It all depends what you want it for... see my site for photos
