hi bud, did mine 15 months or so ago, easy really, engine mounts want changing, then its a matter of sorting wiring quite alot of mpi loom is scrap , wires for fuel injection and ecu etc. you will need to extend starter motor and alternator wires as they are on the n/s on a tdi . then its a matter of bolting on rad intercooler ,exhaust, and fit a relay for the glow plugs, try and get one off a 200tdi . also fit fuel filter , you can leave the fuel lines from mpi they are fine. took me two wkds to do, steady away , also did some other jobs while at it , fitted new clutch , timing belt kit rear main seal , rocker cover gasket while engine was out , made life easy. any problems pm me happy to help...:)

Thanks for the reply mate, appreciate it, just a couple of questions like will the fuel pump, tank be ok if i flush them through, and does the tdi bolt up to the mpi gearbox, again thanks for the reply mate

You cannot use mpi gearbox wrong main input shaft to long. fuel lines and pump fine mate. you can use transfer box , but it is defender ratio, ok if ya running large tyres...:)

Well i started the conversion today after work, got the mpi all ready to literally lift out the engine bay, not bad for 2 hours work, will be doing some more over the weekend, cant wait to get it done

Well after a couple of days of not being able to do very much due to other commitments, managed to get the tdi lump out last night, gonna have a good crack at it today, hoping to get the gearboxes swapped over and start prepping the tdi lump to go back into the mpi
Will update later

dont forget ya engine mounts want welding in. get ya engine attatched to the gearbox then lower engine into place then you can mark up ya mounts for welding them in place.:)

My mechanic is always going on about swapping the 2.0 mpi engine on my Defender for a 300 tdi. Would that be feasible?

I'm sure it is but just be aware it is alot of work

I managed to get the gear boxes all swapped over today, have had to call it a day as it started ****ing down, will start on the engine and mounts tomorrow after i've finished work, pretty pleased with how its gone so far

Quick update, again not had alot of time on this thanks to a hectic work schedule, but i've managed to change the timing belt on the tdi lump, replace the rocker cover gasket and water pump gasket, all thats left is the rear main oil seal then its ready to put into the disco, can't wait to get it in when work quietens down a bit, will update again soon hopefully

Well, another update, got the rear main oil seal done, put the tdi lump all back together and managed to get it in the disco, and the mounts all welded in, will start plumbing it all in tomorrow, here are a couple of pics

good man. wont be long now buddy...:)

Thanks mate, and thank you for all your help so far, just a quick question did you have to swap the throttle cable's as they look totally different, and they look like a right pain in the the arse to get off the pedal?
Cheers mate

Right another update, again not had much time on this again but managed to get the disco all wired up and running today, still got alot to do, bleed clutch, power steering, cut out the old wiring, sort out something with the airbox and put all the interior back toghether and i'm sure there's more but can't remember at the mo, but its getting there

yep , use ya 200 tdi one. use as much as poss off ya 200 bud, makes life easy..:) you will also have to change your heater pipes , as the mpi are totally different..:) ye the clip on the pedal is a pain , not alot of room , easy to get off , but putting back another story.

At last after a scare from the transfer box and many hours its finally finished, just gotta cable tie wires and pipes etc and generally tidy things up, extremely happy with it, cant wait to get it on the rough stuff, but i just wanna thank everyone for any help and advice they provided
