I've emailed Ron about a MAFAM 75p and compensator. It's done 76K so it's probably not working that great and cheaper than £160 for a new Bosch one.

Car runs great, I did noticed tonight when booting it up a country hill quite a bit of smoke in the rear view - noticed it in head light beam of the car behind! Feel a bit sorry for them as I kept doing it :). It leads me to think it might be a slight overfuel or dare I say it a dodgy injector. A bit of smoke underload is not uncommon in a diesel however. I've run plenty of injector cleaners through over the summer so it ought to be clean.

Mine was serviced back in April so might need doing again.

Didn't really pay much attention to MPG until the recent hikes but i'm sure i used to easily get 120-130 miles to £20 last year around town (although it was 96p then) - i'm lucky to get 100 these days.

Thanks Andy.

Latest test revealled

1) Mainly 90% local (one short run on m/w) - 25-28MPG overall
2) 75% driving at 65-70 on m/way and 25% short 5 mile runs - 32MPG overall.

Doesn't seem quite as bad as yours. Performance is great so a bit weary of spending £120 on MAF and RR if I will only see a small improvement. What I don't get is a big improvement on a motorway run even if I take it really steady.

One thing I wondered was if the 17" tyres make a difference. Guy at work said his Mondeo dropped 4MPG when he sticks his big wheels/tyres on it.

MPG about right for this time of year. Always see smoke in following cars headlights if pulling hard. Forget the 17" business.
