i no the feeling, i get 13-15mpg around town drivin nice, and 17mpg on the motoway doing a constant 60mph...

Think you need to contact one of these nice guys near you, if you can find one, with a fault code reader. Your motor has a few issues if that's the fuel mileage your getting. Suggest you ring Diesel Bob and talk to him. He may have the diagnostic stuff or be able to point you in the right direction. Ribchester is not that far from you.

Just do a search 'Diesel Bob tuning' all the info is on his web site.

I only keep my '96 2.5 DSE because its so GOOD on fuel.:D

Whilst I liked the power of the V8s ( had 3 of them ) I didn't like the economy, or lack of!!

Its coming up to 135K now, but I keep her in good fettle, change oils & filters regularly.

Regular runs up & down the M1 with a ton or so loaded 4 wheel tow a van gives 24-25 mpg at 65-70 mph, solo at 70 gives 35-36, even had 40 once by using a 'light-foot'!!

Also, ensure tyres are good & I keep mine SLIGHTLY above recommended pressures, no binding brakes/transmission etc.

I'm convinced that my mpg got better after I fitted a 17" Kenlow fan, (the waxstat ones sap engine-bhp (read fuel) as it only comes on very rarely.

while on the subject i have a v8 and at my most carefullest driving i can only squeeze out 13-14mpg, is that about right or should i be getting more?

probably right. some have claimed more but i've never experienced it. however you'd get better mileage at low motorway speeds over long distances than by the "carefullest" driving around city centre.

motorway @ 50 i can push to 16, where ANY 30 roads are involved no matter how long or short, 13-14mpg. ahh i'm not too worried anyway was just looking for false hope haha

I use mine on Motorway and A roads every day on a 80 mile round trip and I am getting approx 20mpg on LPG (I get very slightly more on Unleaded), I very rarely drive light footed, and mine is a 2001 4.6.....

I have done 24k in the last 12months since I have had it, and have worked out the mpg on a spreadsheet not just on the clock and overall I am getting a combined figure of around 17MPG. This is mainly down to the fact that I can be seen towing a rather large twin axle caravan around the country.....

Are you one of these people the government hire as a mobile road block to cause congestion and thus hasten the implimentation of road charging?:D:D:D

I just bet you're single or that your wife is having an affair.

16 on a Mway @ 50 mph needs looking at. Should be a lot more than that if you're only doing 50.
Mine has been up to 22 at 60mph and mine doesn't really run that well imo, always seems to have a misfire although it revs clean when its stood still and I'm trying to find fault lol.
