So after having my Freelander a while ago and gone through some sporty cars since then I am now looking at a 2006 Range Rover Sport 2.7 tdv6.

I know these aren't great on MPG but whats the typical MPG people are getting for similar models? Real world is always better than a review somewhere.

I have also seen companies selling maps that say they improve fuel economy plus power, not sure both are possible but has anyone used any and seen any improvement.

Car I am looking at has done 130k. Anything to be aware of around that age? Apparently its had the timing belt done recently, has a FSH and has just had a new air compressor.

Just had a very quick read through some threads on here, yeah think its probably low on the likelehood of happening at that age and mileage. Always possible though.

I had the same issue when I got my BMW and timing chains snapping. Thing is you never know do you and nothing can be done to prevent it. 20k miles later and its still ok.

Ok apart from the crank, anything else I should be on the lookout for?
 
See if you can stretch to a tdv8, only the EGRs failing and lunching the turbos or just the turbos themselves dumping oil into the engine causing it to run on you've got to worry about 🤪

My tdv8 l322 does 20-22mpg bumbling around, seen 28mpg on a run but suspect it'll go higher with a fresh service and couple of issues I'm working thru done. My 05 D3 2.7tdv6 manual was similar, maybe 1 or 2 mpg better

Probably the wrong cars to look at if you're worried about fuel costs...when I was looking, a 4.2 supercharged would only be about £300 p.a more to run fuel wise after tax and insurance and difference in fuel cost was taken into account. Less to go wrong too

Edit to add you might see a small decrease in fuel consumption with an egr delete and remap
 
Many thanks. My current car does 68mpg so its going to be a shock to the system. In fact its the same as the Focus ST I had and sold that due to fuel consumption!

But sometimes its about the ride isn't it. I would rather get one, chuck on a fuel economy remap and have a nice car to ride around in, no one needs to see my tears at the petrol pump :)
 
I put a blanking plate over the EGR on my diesel freelander. Is that still a thing even for the TDV6 and 8?

Don't forget, it's not just fueling these kind of cars its maintaining them which kills you
 
What types of costs? Fluids etc?
Yeah, general servicing with gearbox, transfer box, diff oils every couple of years realistically but also repairs, they do throw wobbles and any one you buy will have faults! They're heavy on brakes and suspension bushes so if you're not doing these kind of things yourself it gets very expensive. Tyres are a big cost, they like decent rubber and they're heavy cars. I came out of LR ownership for about 4 years cuz I just couldn't do it justice
 
Ah yeah most of that I can and do do myself. There is a good LR garage near me which is reasonable on prices.
 
Is it best to map them out as well or will I get away with just the blanking plates as long as it doesn't throw eml on? I've read the earlier ones don't always throw a fault
You can just blank them, remapping will give around 320hp and 720nm which helps mid range acceleration :)
 
My issue might be more trivial than all that anyway. Not sure I can get it in the garage!

The garage door height from the floor is 178cm
