ive got a 220W alpine amp running 5inch alpine speakers which are in the roof trim above yer ears.

havent got a head unit, just got my ipod plugged straight into the amp via a 3.5mm jack -- aux lead.

the amp is hidden under the passenger seat next to the battery, eith the remote lead plugged straight onto the positive terminal, via a switch.

all in all works quite well, and less appealing to criminals cos they look in the window and no cd player.

oh btw my vehicle is a 90.

A 'kin good idea that.

I take it there are no problems with output overload into the Aux

i dont really know what you mean?

The output of the amp is adjustable, so i set it so that full volume on the ipod is as loud as the speakers will go before they distort, then i just use the volume on the ipod to adust it.

Sorry did not make myself clear.

A headphone output is not normally regarded as a good preamp as the output is very different to a normal "line\aux" input.

In extreme cases years ago you could blow amps this way.I think they mey have changed things a little though

Hence why I asked. But it looks as though yours at least works.
