Hello,

sorry if it’s been covered but I haven’t found anything specific.

i moved to Sweden in feb and my 90 has been parked up in the U.K. it’s a project that is 90% finished and almost ready for MOT.

my plan was to spend a few weekends In the U.K. and get it finished but corona has killed that.

I was going to sell it or move it to a friends farm but thinking I want it in Sweden.

I’ve read about importing cars and I’ve read about moving road legal cars but has anyone moved a project??

would be nice to move it here and finish it here
 
RoRo - roll on roll off is a goo way, then you can fill a container. That or a csr transporter.

I can't comment on the moving project bit, but I also moved to Sweden a few years ago - with my newly rebuilt 1992 90. Once you get it here can give you a few tips on getting it registered etc.

Where abouts have you moved to? I'm in Linköping
 
I’ll be moving it to Malmo. My plan was to leave it in the U.K. but I’ve seen a few 90s around and even a series 1 and want my Landy.

I looked on transportstyrelsen and it seems fairly straight forward for registering and inspection.

what was your process?

might just need to get it finished and MOT’d in the U.K.

I drove mine over when I moved - so was considered part of "flyttgods" - I don't think it really made much difference, I think it's more important if you're bringing in a much newer car (and therefore could be liable for tax).

I applied for an ursprungskontroll - certification of origin. You are supposed to include a copy of the purchase receipt here, but I checked and since I'd had mine for 6 years when I moved it wasn't necessary.

Once that came through I could book a registration inspection (registreringsbesiktning). These aren't cheap - so you should try and make sure you don't fail first time like me ;) because I had no seats in the back it was considered as s light goods vehicle (lättlastbil), as a result I failed on not having a load guard (lastförskutningsskydd) and load area eyelets (to tie your cargo down to). I also failed on having a bull bar without lights (because I hadn't got round to buying any).

I had to fix those and then go back for a retest - retest cost 800kr for two seconds work for him checking I'd added the guard and eyelets and either fitted lights or removed bull bar.

Once that's done you get your registration number and can also get it mot'd (kontrollbesiktning).

For insurance to get to and from test centre I found my car and house insurance provider could do one day insurance based on chassis number (since you don't yet have a Swedish reg number), I used Länsförsäkringar but I would imagine most would offer this if you ask.

I’m thinking I’ll get it finished in the U.K. then! I also don’t fancy driving an 86 v8 from the north of England to Sweden either. Will spend some time looking at transport.
 
I enjoyed the drive, would have been better to have taken a day or two longer probably.

I drove over from Southampton - so drove to Dover the night before taking ferry over to Dunkirk, then drove Dunkirk to Bremen first day, then Bremen to Linköping the second day - ended up about 8 hours first day and 12/14 hours the second day - but landy didn't miss a beat - thinking back was lucky because I'd only just got it MOTd a couple of weeks before, having spent a year or so rebuilding
 
I'm not sure i could say i'd enjoy it! it would be liverpool - newcastle possibly then a ferry.

In terms of mods are they as strict? Mine is standard in terms of what is says on the v5, was converted from diesel to V8 in the early 90s.

I was also thinking about series doors and soft top for the summer. Kinda like the look of the NAS spec ones.

Something like this would be perfect for a weekend at a lake.

Is the v5 Up to date with regard to engine? If so I don't think there'd be an issue but my only experience really is my landy, and apart from a galv chassis it's pretty much stock. I was there for the registration inspection and it's not really in depth.....I am not sure about soft top....I can't see there being an issue but don't really have any experience to back that up :)
