Hello All,
I'm a new lady Landy owner and just starting to learn how to maintain her. I've always wanted a landy and its a steep learning curve but loving it! I noticed a diesel leak yesterday, only to discover that the leak off pipes have been munched right through by I'm assuming mice! Got to check they haven't eaten their way through any other pipes. Anyone know if there is something I can fit under the bonnet that might deter the little blighters?

You could try getting some metal leak off pipes made up. Or use traps or poison in the garage.

And congratulations also for asking a question I can't remember having seen asked before! :)
 
Seriously the leak off pipes do degrade at the point they join the injector, Halfrauds do a section of pipe for a few sheckels.

May be worth it to try replacing and seeing what happens, or refitting the CAT.

If someone has removed your CAT , then that may be why you are having this issue.

Will have to go and look at my 90, but iirc the leak offs slide over the tube and have jubille clips, not sure how a metal pipe would fit over them. Alu tape sounds like a good idea.

They were quite worn so replaced them prior to MOT in Oct. Popped down to my garage and they gave me a small length to replace them again.

You don't slide the metal pipes over them. You have new pipes made, with the metal pipes soldered on to the banjos.

Older Landrovers, and indeed all diesels, were like that for years, plastic pipes were introduced for cost saving in recent years.
 
Has it been run on vegetable oil at all , mice like to eat plastic oil tanks on chainsaws as the chain lube is veg oil based.
 
I've had this same problem on my 300 Tdi ..... and they were new pipes too :eek: - I replaced the old new pipes with new rubber pipes .... and not had the problem since....o_O

Even weirder is that we have two 300Tdi's, sat in our garage .... next to each other ... both had new spill pipes at the same time .... mine got eaten .... and SWMBO's did not ... go figure :confused: ( though it might be fair to say that even a small quantity of derv is gonna be pretty toxic to a rodent ... so maybe they didn't eat SWMBO's pipe's as they were brown bread by this point :oops:.

An update...new pipes replaced and wrapped in aluminium tape. Also set a trap and caught one. Hopefully trap and tape should do the trick! Don't think they've nibbled any other pipes thankfully. Thanks for all the comments. I'm a total newbie to all this :)
