No its not an mot fail its a pass and advise,

For the MOT all you need is TWO red lights one on each side and roughly the same level, any other lights that come on with the side lights are auxiliary/additional lights and are not testable items.

It might be illegal, but not a MOT fail.

showing white light through a broken or faded lens is a fail.

I did say you can disable two of the lamps

Completely flawed, not the 'standardised' system it should be. Often use council MOT centres as they don't do the work so don't therefore add extras.

No its not a fail in the case of a vehicle with more than one rear side light each side, crazy i know but i don't make the rules:D

Ill go with fail,
red lights shown to rear, white to front, amber is for side markers and directional indicators.

Ok the only way to fail on a no. plate light is

A. it doesn't work (not illuminating no. plate)

B. it shows a white light to rear

So amber light isn't white and it illuminates no. plate  theres nothing to say it has to be white
