I was going to reply, yes but in the tratter no on will think you bat for the other side, but as many tratters are now all about the looks that statement no longer holds true:D
 
I cruise my TD5 90 up and down the motorways of Britain with considerable enjoyment. The main thing that slows you down is other traffic. In standard trim the TD5 will more than exceed the national speed limit so it doesn't really need remapping. I put an overdrive on mine at the beginning of 2016 which made it a lot quieter for motorway cruising. I can get to Lands End and back in a day from my home in Leicester on 120 bhp. More would be nice but it is not essential. You might be able to accelerate faster with a remap, or hold a higher gear at lower speeds, but it is perfectly happy as standard.


Thats why I said above the o/d will be great IF you have the needed bhp which a td5 will have, 200 and 300 not really.

Anyway the op is going to get a defender so any further comments are a waste of fingerprints for us.

But his fingers will be worn smooth from the non stop barrage of typical tratter questions:D

Still pondering with all the options.
How do you overcome the speedo error when using tyres larger than standard to decrease the engine rpm.
I found that with the larger tyres using 1.2 transfer box my speedo was spot on with the sat nav, probably because speedos usually read fast anyway.
Same with 1.4 box but then both transfer boxes had original speedo drives untouched so 1.2 was calbrated for disco on smaller tyres.
 
My 1996 defender 300 tdi will comfortably do 80 (uncomfortably 90 both on a private road) Disco xfer box, 16" wheels but I usually cruise at 60-65 on dual carriageways and motorways
