Hi All, I plan to get a moto-lita 14 inch wheel to replace the stock 15 inch "airbag" one fitted to my 90. The standard one on there is in an ideal position for comfort - no issues with legroom and reach, and I want to keep the same position - but don't know if this will be achieved with the flat type or dished type of moto-lita, anybody got any experience of fitting one? Would I be right in thinking all moto's have a standard bolt arrangement, and only the boss type changes to suit different vehicles? Looked at their website but not much help with these questions. Haven't checked the spline count yet---.
Ta in advance---

So, you want to make your landy less safe, spend £100 and this is because you have no issues with comfort or reach.

I don't get it?

Sorry, thought you were taking an airbag wheel off from your description. For mountney wheels the shallow boss seems to be the best option, but not sure about the moto lita. Maybe worth checking with rimmers or someone like that to see.

If you like the stock wheel, then the flat is what you'd want. With a boss, I believe even the flat will be a little further out than stock; that's why most suggest the smaller boss.

There's a UK based company that makes a fairly short boss. I'm on my fone, and couldn't find it with a quick search... Will try to post a link later.

BUT, If you like the stock... Why not stay with it?

Didn't say I liked it, just that it is in the right position for comfort. Want a bling one. Had a 14 inch wheel on my last car, found the size to my liking. Don't like where the finger depressions are on the standard wheel, don't fit my fingers.

Sounds to me that Winblowdriver has the wheel that was fitted to TD5's, that I call the HOVIS wheel due to the centre pad which I think looks like a small loaf of bread.

If it's in good condition, you should get a few quid for ya stock wheel mate.

I once priced up the standard wheel at an authorised Land Rover dealer about 5 years ago. They quoted £240-00 and that's without the HOVIS centre pad. And they were quick to tell me that they actually had one in stock that I could take away with me. I bet it's still on their shelf now gathering dust. So you should get a good price for yours.

Just fitted the mota lita 14" flat wheel from Moto-Lita Steering Wheel Kit - Steering Wheels - Products yes the wheel is a little closer to you but i haven't noticed it when driving feels really nice

You could do what I did. Extend the bracket that holds the bottom of the steering column to the bulkhead in the engine bay. This has moved the steering wheel 2" closer to the instrument panel..... and as a bonus takes the steering/ignition lock further into the dash panel making it harder to and tamper with. Of course the steering linkages in the engine bay needed to be 2" shorter as well but as mine is a hybrid vehicle loads of other parts are modified.

Yea, thanks for that, reckon I'll go for the flat one. The original wheel is the Hovis one (reckon Hovis will now be in the landy vocabulary forever ). Will need to hang on to the factory one, next owner (when I throw off the mortal coil) might want original (anyway they don't sell for much on fleabay). Wheel off this weekend and count the splines.
Thanks to all 4 your input.

I know you pretty much ended this now, but I think your right to go for the flat one from your description. I fitted the dished one at Christmas and whilst I like the position of it (doesn't particularly feel any different from the original), what you will notice is that easy little move I'm sure you did to indicate barely moving your hand, you can no longer do as the wheel sits an inch or two further away from the stalks requiring a slight, but noticeable, extra amount of effort which may just grind your gears every time you indicate or put the wipers on.

If you don't know how many splines, how do you know what they sell for?? I think you'll find one sells for considerably more than the other!
