they will no my husband is an mot tester and we have a discovery TD5 and a freelander they test brakes driving it with a meter in the car on the floor so don't worry
 
any permenant four wheel drive should never be put on a 2 roller system it will knacker it the car that is
 
ok yes spoke with the guy and yes freelanders they test with meter ok so that was that now .failed on handbrake pulling car to left he took drums of cleaned brakes and that sorted that but when he took drivers drum off he said that the lip on the back plate had russted and the lip on it had come away in one or 2 places and now tere is a very slight rubbing noise when driving along so now i can either spot weld it or fit a new plate what u reakon many thanks dawn

No disrespect to your husband, but he may well know being an owner. Personally I think its very naive to assume that an MOT tester WILL KNOW. I would still ask to confirm that its being doing, but there is a way to word it without being patronising. I know an MOT tester that dosent know his arse from his elbow......dont go there anymore!!!!!!!!!!!

wrong that dont all know we rang 10 mot garages and only 7 of them new it was not ment to go on a 2 wheel roller
 
When testing my Freelander the station uses the meter as mentionned above. But sometimes the staff don't realise or forget. I always wait for mine and watch it being tested so I can stop them using the rollers if needed. At least once I can remember a chap reversing backwards and putting the rear wheels on the rollers and his mate working with him told him not to try. Easy to forget. Same bloke did it this year but remembered. We've taken it there for about 6 years. Always worth checking.

Get to MOT station, ask and watch test... NO rollers on a permanant 4wd vehicle..

If you choose not to ask and watch, get your credit card ready....

Couldnt really give a monkeys who's being doing what , for how long. Its my pride and joy, my blood sweat and tears thats works on her.
When someone else is having a fiddle with her I wanna know what and how they're doing it. 18 months or 18 years doesnt mean nothing, everyone learns everyday, too many people think they know it all cos of how long they been doing it.

Its my motor, my MOT and my money. I'll ask, watch and pay.I'm the customer remember.
 
So what exactly happens if it's done on a two wheel set up?
The difference in front and rear prop speed will make the vcu activate and pass power to the wheels not on the roller. So the Freelander should roll off the rollers like me dads range rover did some years ago when he watched the tester travelling towards the wall in front after making the mistake to roller it. I supose the harm would be when they put the foot brake on and only turn 1 wheel. Non roller wheels would also have the brakes on. Something may give if the strain is too much.
 
Wish I had seen this last year my baby kept failing the mot on its hand break on the roller.
Mind you it is hit and miss whether it works or not 99% of the time no matter what I do to it.
I have found it at the bottom of the garden many a time when the wife forgets to leave it in gear.
 
my wife 1800 petrol went in for mot today just failed with a slightly ripped track rod end rubber he said if it had been in december he would have just given it a advisory but new rules came in January and all change I asked him about taking the cat of my turbo freelander he said throw a brick at it no seriously if you take the cat of it will fail at the moment as the new law stands but he agreed that on a deisel cats are no good BUT in april there is a review of cats on diesles

I believe what you say Teddy - but this is not correct procedure.

There should be no rejections yet, due to changes in the MOT dated 1st Jan 2012.

Vehicles which would fail under the new regs are being given advisories until the end of March.

So for example if you have a 'spark ignition' engined vehicle with the cat removed, it will get an MOT today - with an advisory - but will fail if presented after 1st April.

There are no published revisions of cats on diesels, that I have been made aware of, and I get up-date e-mails from VOSA.

ok i take note but thats what he told me I will take it with a pich of salt the next thing he tells me but my wife's car did not do bad a 1998 that 14 years old and just failed on the rubber on the track rod and a side light bulb which was working this morning

You're quite right there - bloody well done for a 14 year old.

I hope mine will be as good when it gets to that age.
 
Mine passed yesterday .I stitched the long hole in the drivers seat ,fixed the rear light bulb holder with a strip of tinfoil chucked many months of crap into a few boxes ,hoovered it out ,fixed the broken drivers window regulator cable with 2 bike gear cables and solder gave it a quick wash and made it to test centre just 2 minutes before appointment time .As usual I left all the small jobs till last minute

When the guy came out and told me it passed , I thought he might be taking the **** .
