1998 300tdi.mot runs out soon and giving it the once over noticed oil leaking from the steering box,is this a fail.probably an expensive fix?thanks.

you can get a seal kit but ya gotta take the box out to do it correctly,i got a second hand unit for £30 ,not had a prob since...btw,it is a mot fail if its bad.

If it isn't leaking too badly you'll probably get away with wiping the drips off just before taking it in for the MOT. Also depends on how fussy the tester is but if there's a proper leak it will be a fail.

thanks.might just try the wiping of the drips routine.i think the steering box is on its way out because when im on the motorway it drifts from side to side.probably have to change the box anyway.bit skint at the moment so blagging it is my cheapest option.
