Hi Folks,

Had the MOT done today... failed !

1) Worn bushes on shocks
2) Rear brakes binding
3) And most peculiar.. lack of headlight beam pattern !

I had a closer look at my headlights (marked as lucas) and there isn't any pattern moulded into the glass - except a sort of zig-zag patern across the entire face:

Any comments on these headlight units?
Also.. how big a job is replacing the worn bushes on the shocks ?

Cheers

Is there rust on the inside of the head light on the shiny reflector, think thats what they are talking about. The shock bushes are really easy to do but i would get new split pins for reassembly. The rear brakes will probably turn out to be the most difficult to do just take a look under the drum and see what is wrong. That is a good result on an mot:):)

shocks is easy, one Nut top and bottom replace bushes and bolt back. 15 minutes. only need the approriate spanner for the nut. Head lights are reasonably cheap, so maybe just change them than argue? keep the old ones as spare.

Thanks for the feedback folks.

I was slightly surprised when the MOT tester said he thought the brakes problem might be wrong type of "pads" or stuck caliper piston on the "disks"... I wanted to point out that they were drums all round and that he was clearly an idiot... but I bit my tongue !

he also thought the headlight bulbs are upside down... but aren't they sealed beam units that have no bulbs to remove ??

I was toying with the idea of getting a a halogen upgrade kit anyway... although actually the reflectors and back bowls of the current lights are in very good condition.

the mot tester is clearly an idiot, sealed beam headlamps don't have a pattern they have a hotspot which is checked on main beam
