The suspension is an integral part of the functionality of the vehicle, if it's not working correctly what's to say it won't lower one corner while you are on the motorway ?
I think if its present it should work and the same as if you have an engine management light on they will fail you on that also
Could be simple case of diagnostics needed

I had a look underneath car and rear drivers side height sensor arm link more or less came away from rear axle. When I picked up car from mot the suspension was working again, going up and down as it should. Maybe they fixed it. Need to do brake pipes too, so will check it out tonight after work.
