MOT failed on the devices being missing? What are they and are they expensive easy enough to do. I don't see how they are missing as they weren't last MOT. :confused:
 
You may have to give the 'alpha numeric' codes for these on the fail sheet ...

unless it's as simple as the lock-stops are missing? :eek:
 
I think it might be the lock stops, are they just the nut and bolt by the swivel housing? Any idea on the size lol.

Most are 12mm x 50mm?, but some have been fitted with 19mm :/

Which one to adjust, depends on whether stop bolts are fitted in front or behind axle, which wheel and whether rubbing front or back...

If you have both front wheels off the ground, then undo the bolt until the gap between the radius arm and the tyre wall on the opposite side is an inch on full lock (left if you start on the drivers side). Turn the steering to full right lock and do the same on the adjuster on the other side. When you lower the vehicle down, the 1-inch gap, (20mm, which is the factory spec clearance), will approximately reduce by half - thus giving you adequate clearance...

Have you or the previous owner fitted bigger than std tyres? If so then maybe they went missing at the same time?

No but I had a cowboy work on the swivels replacing swivels new seals etc wondering if he removed them and didn't refit them?
 
generally it is the half nuts on the track rod (steering bars), as mine failed yesterday because steering locking device was loose and i questioned them and thats what it was
 
Locking device is either split pin or locking nut on the end of the track rod or the clamp on the drag link to stop the track rod undoing carnt mean anything else lock stops are different to locking device hopes this helps and yes i am a mot tester

I'll pop to the local car spare place and get one. I presume it just hammers down into a hole through the bolt and stops the nut coming down?
 
You can buy them from virtually any car spares place, even halfrauds. Line the hole in the threaded bit up with a gap on the castellated nut, pop the split pin through and spread its legs. As long as the hole is clear should take you not long at all.
 
Halfrauds sell em Or find a thin nail that will fit in the hole and is about 20mm longer than the nut's diameter insert thru hole with equal amount sticking outta each end and bend em towards each other. Job done. even a pieces of steel coat hanger threaded thru and bent over will do the job.
