Yes it's true, it will now be a rolling 40yr classic car exemption from VED.
Seeing this reminded me of living in Belgium in 2013 and suddenly seeing dozens of Land Rovers 25yrs+ come up for sale over night, all were from Holland, now the interesting thing here is that Belgium has classic car status as of 25yrs but you can't really modify them there or change engines, gearboxes or anything fun like that. I asked on Land Rover Owners Club Belgium what was happening, only to be told that Holland gave 3 months notice of 40yr classic car status, no big deal you think, well what if today your early 110 was €110/yr to tax and in 3 months time it was going to cost you €2400/yr to tax it, you might not feel so attached to it any longer.
Everything, especially diesels that were 25+ suddenly disappeared from the streets due to the mega taxation hike, but most have settled for 40yrs as a means of stopping you from running a relatively comfortable classic as your daily and paying almost no tax on it. VED in the UK is lovely, I enjoy paying less than 1/10th of what I used to pay in Holland for the same vehicle, but by god do I miss their roads!!!
