mines from 1984, no ABS, no airbag, no cat to remove.....no nothing. Sometimes being old and knackered has its joys!

My 1993 has no electrical luxuries either apart from fog and reverse lights :)

Mine is MOT'd on Monday for a fail as I know there is a weld that needs doing on the chassis. Thought I'd find out the rest before doing it though.

Anyone know where we stand with removing our CATs? Binned mine a few months back

Have heard that if a cat was fitted to the vehicle when it was built, it will have to have it in place to get the "new" MoT.
Anyone know if I'll have to refit the EGR junk too?

From what I've read, the EGR valve is not tested yet. But there seems to be an argument as to whether a diesel qualifies for a full catalytic emissions test, or whether it's purely a particulate emission test and so our CATs don't have to be fitted.

Two completely different types of test, a diesel can't be subject to a catalytic emissions test cos it aint got a cat fitted. ;)

Right, that's what I thought. However, the \haines manual refers to it as a CAT for the 300Tdi engine, and the new regs are very non-specific, they just say any vehicle manufactured with a CAT should have one fitted come MOT time...does that mean it will show on the tester's computer if the vehicle had a CAT from new or not?

problem is, if it has airbags fitted abs or check engine light they normally stay lit for a couple seconds after engine start. In this instance wire them to your oil pressure light:D
Was common practice here when that laws was bought in

My MOT man says that they will also lift the open door to check for hinge play. Thats us buggered then because even new Defender hinges have some play in them from my experience. Passed mine in November but told me will fail under the new rules. SOunds like a money making scam to me.

Oh my god, that must be a joke... They will be failing them for leaky roofs or play in the gearbox next... ****s.

Some of this must be to generate money for the garages, girly goes in with her polo, hinges have failed the mot, girly pays garage to fix them.

I thought my '03 90 was fitted (when new) with a cat. Mebbe I'm wrong? Whatever, the previous owner had replaced the exhaust with a s/s setup with no cat when I got it.
I never understood the reason for a cat on a diesel - is just to satisfy dubious EU rules & regs again?
