Defender just passed its MOT :)

I didn't think it would. Apparently the chassis is "one of the best they have seen for a defender of its age". I put that down to mostly being used on the farm where there is no salt.

So 2 questions.

1) They recommended covering the chassis with old engine oil? I know this has been covered before, what can people recommend?

2) There were 2 advisories, one for each side: "Front steering pivot point has slight play". What does this actually mean?!

Don't worry about chassis protection, just spend £55 on dinitrol; some ML to go in the bulkhead and on the chassis, and some stonechip to try and protect the rear arches a bit.

However there are a couple of rusted holes on the rear crossmember, near the edges, what is my best course of action with them?

Also, now it isn't constantly driving through grass the axles are rusting. What is best to put on them?

I would assume that the front steering pin is the swivel pin?

Replacement pins are FRC3511 (upper) and FRC2894 (lower)....but chances are that the play is in the bearings as the pins are chodish to say the least.
FRC2916 for the housing and bush and 606666 for the bearing.

Complete kits are available from the usual suppliers and should have everything you need to repair. Hope this helps!

Alm.
