It is not nice to see any car stolen but least of all other Land Rovers.

One thing I have noticed, looking at the "Stolen" section, is they appear to be mainly Defenders that are targeted.

Is this due to being easier to strip down, or to be shipped abroad or what?
Have owners found their insurance is being affected by the number that appear to be getting stolen?

The P38 appears to be not targeted (OK I know, who would want to steal one of them :p)
The reason I am asking is that, after I finish with the P38, I would not mind looking at the Defender.

defenders are targeted because they are high value, easy to strip for parts, demand exceeds supply and REALLY easy to get into.
the other LR offerings tend to have been designed in the last 20 years and therefore have such modern wonders as door locks that cant be opened with a lolly pop stick ( Truth!) and are not so easy to strip and lets face it defenders get rebuilt over and over again the others eg the disco tend to be scrapped when the tin worm has finished - I've yet to here of a trend to rechassis disco 1's or P38's. So there isnt such a ready supply of good quality used major body parts cheap.

Becuse you can drive away a defender but you can't a p38 without the key or the code :)
Far superior not that they are not wanted , becuse its too difficult :D: D::D

And as for money in bits a 38 is worth double in bits :p:p:p

Most defenders I have driven can be unlocked and started with any key as the barrels are worn out form years of use very hard to keep them on your driveway in certain areas

are you seriously trying to tell me that a P38 is worth more than a defender when both are stripped?

set of decent doors for my 110csw is over £500

and if they are so good how come they've nearly all disappeared off the road, sorry mate, but defenders are pinched for the reasons I stated in a previous post, there is (and probably always will be) a demand for parts all over the world.
lets face it, it seems as if a rebuilt 25 year old defender is worth as much as a NEW rangie in the US.

With most defenders that are stolen, you can open and start it with a tea spoon, great if you lose your keys, not so great as it might as well be unlocked all day long

Well even with the problems the P38 gives me over the time I have had it (and probably many more months to come) I am pleased that there are advantages in choosing it rather than a defender......... I would prefer to get up in a morning and know the car will still be outside the house ....... although on some days I wish someone would steal it when it decided to misbehave. ;)

Do you think the insurance company would still pay out if you put a "Please Steal Me" notice in the window and left the keys in it?

Doesnt cost an arm and a leg to hep prevent them being stolen though,

Full pedal lock is around £50,

Skytag, £200 inc fitting (this does vary though as I used my garage, took less that 1/2 hour)

I'm told the pedal lock is enough to deter most thief's,

That said if they want it not a lot is going to stop them having it, best you can do is slow them down,

Thankfully I have a 90 CSW so it has an alarm and immobilizer so I'm better off than most made around 97 (but it does get twitchy in winter lol)
