morning all, my missus took the freelander off to work this morning and the fan isn't working again, had a new resister and a second hand blower fitted about a month ago so can't see it being any of those are the switches a bit dodgy on these as this is all it could be, the resister was brand new too? Cheers John

just what u need on a cold morning, lol

it was the heater wasn't it

assume the second hand fan hasnt gone

or the motor blower relay

may be an idea to remove the fan and put a 12 v supply onto it to see if that's ok

or get a mulitmeter and see if u have voltage at the fan wires whilst the switch is turned on

think it's only speed 4 that goes through the resister

can out ur mulitmeter on the different wires according to the switch number you've out it on

can't remember the colours of the wires u less i look in the haynes again, i think it was red and something

so u can isolate the fault stage by stage

assume the fuses are ok

trouble is with the second hand fan don't know how old it is

hope that helps abit

Cheers problems got worse for her today she had every light on the dashboard come on so she pulled over onto the hard shoulder she left it turned off for 5 mins then restarted and had no problems and even the fans work again now ?? I'm home in a day or two so I'll have a decent look and get the multimeter out thanks for the help

wonder if there a loose or bad earth causing the issue

but on turning it off then back on again I assume it allows the ecu to reset

wondering if maybe an ecu is going south but haven't heard of many ecu replacements to be honest

is the battery and alternator ok ??

plse let us know how u get on , always good to find out

cheers mate

Right spent most of yesterday having a look at the electrical problems why fan was on and off when it felt like it stripped dash to get to switches all cleaned and work fine, checked fuses and all relays all worked fine checked battery and alternator all seemed fine checked wiring and everything took the missus out shopping last night and when fans shut down I gave it a kick with my left foot and hey presto worked for a few seconds as soon as it stopped a gave it a gentle whack with my foot and working again, so sounding like dodgy connection/wiring from the wires from the switch to the blower fan so I'll take blower out today clean connections then put new connections on end of wires and im hoping this will sort problem out for good?

Problems fixed took blower motor out and disconnected the plug and found wires were not in the best of condition rusty (Prob from water from shoes?) and seemed a bit burnt in places so cut old connector off and rewired about 20cm of wiring and new insulated connectors and hey presto all working a treat now (apart from first time wiring it round the wrong way so was sucking instead of blowing lol) but it's working again so we're all happy again !!
