Just gone Mondo today, so far so good smells strongly of gearbox oil though will this go? Could just be the bolts for the VCU. props as they are in the hippo but not the prop as this is still in the workshop.

Hi

Have you blanked off the ird ??

you shouldnt need to blank the ird, just unbolt the shaft, and there is still no way for the oil to come out.

:blabla: I have recently reverted to 4x4 after about 3k miles in 4x2 drive while I was renewing VCU bearings. I have to say that I did not notice any difference in fuel consumption. (I take the average for every tank fill)

I can say that she drives much better in 4x4 and the gearchange is better. For some reason related to lack of propshaft, I was always beating the synchro changing from 1st to 2nd. Vehicle was designed as four wheel drive and can easily be maintained as such. Provided that you stick to the rules about new tyres on the rear only and changing the oil in the IRD regularly.
