Doom and gloom..tried all combinations, no luck. I've got red light from the fire cable going into the input of the TV unit, handily the plugs are marked with in and out arrows..red light coming out of TV unit and into the BT phone module on top of the TV unit, but still got the Land Rover screen showing with no controls on the screen module working. I suppose I'll have to wait for the link cable to come to bypass the BT unit next week. But another thought, take the output cable out of the BT unit and see if light comes out of the plug, a job for tomorrow. Is there anything else I can check, = - at the TV unit grey plug? The unit seemed to power up when I installed it the other day, the cooling fan worked. Maybe a fuse to check somewhere? But then would the red light pass through if the fuse is blown?
 
So does the phone module generate it own light or is it the same light that does the whole circuit? What's more annoying is the dealer I bought itfrom assured me installing the TV unit would be plug and play, it will work!
 
Think you need to wait for the loop cable now. I suspect the phone and TV module will produce their own light as they are sending information.
 
Maybe a visit to the local indy Land Rover garage to see what diagnostics show up. the normal garage thing showed no faults except handbrake module missing!.

Your local indi will no doubt have a few fibre loop back adaptors lying around. I got a couple of the proper LR ones from mine when I had amp issues.

Not really a fault when someone has physically removed parts and broken the communication bus.
 
Still no luck with my infotainment! One bonus is that the clock is now only 2hr50 min out of time instead of 3hr 50!

I spoke to the dealer I got the car from and asked about the replacement radio he was going to send. He said he'd send it today. Likewise with the left side mirror that was broke, that's been on the way for 4 weeks. He assured me the radio would be plug and play...

I've got it booked in with Terrain at Bexhill on Thursday for a check-over with diagnostics, hopefully their kit will shed some light on matters, find out what is clonking under the front right side, suspension control ball joint maybe? Apart from the mirrors having a mind of heir own when it comes to adjustment, try to find the oil leak that doesn't drip onto the road, sort out why the handbrake doesn't work and diagnose why the gearbox has the odd jerk changing 5 to 6 and 6 to5 on kickdown, it's not a bad car.

You must be a masochist to buy a car in that state.
 
Yes, quite likely! The new MoT wasn't worth the paper it's written on. The 2010 Sport I px'd was in a worse state in a lot of ways, stiff steering, DAB radio not working, cracked wheels, trim falling off...But onward and upwards.

The by-pass optic cable thingys have just arrived so I'll do a bit of fault finding today. Otherwise it's a visit to the dealer at High Wycombe on Friday. It's still in the 3-month statutory warranty.
 
Tried the by-pass cable on the phone module above the radio, no luck, then by-pass the radio/tv module, no luck. That's the only 2 accessible places I can see for the fibre optic cables, then thy vanish under the floor.
 
You need to blank them both off together in case they are both bad. I find it odd the previous owner wouldn't have done this after one or both packed up as the connections are cheap as chips, unless it is something else that has packed up elsewhere.
 
I didn't realise when I got the wires online there were only 2 in the packet and they took 2 weeks to come from China! Would blanking off 2 items make it work as one item is the radio/tv unit. I've got a feeling this is going to be a return trip to the dealer.
 
Yes you can blank off multiple pieces of equipment to find the fault. That is the easiest way to determine what is broken. Plugs are cheap which is why I am surprised that it hasn't been done already to make the dash display work, unless the problem is a hard to fix or uneconomical repair. Especially as blanking off the obvious hasn't illustrated the issue.

A diagnostic check would probably be the next step as it should tell you what is missing or malfunctioning.

My opinion is a difficult fix if the dealer you bought it from hasn't been able to fix it using the simple techniques described in the thread or they don't know enough about the vehicle to be able to troubleshoot the issue.
 
The other problem is that a lot of the modules are hidden somewhere in the abyss! I'll see wha the man at Bexhill finds. there's another problem cropped up today, separate thread for gearbox!!
 
Not o happy, the dealer failed to supply another car, then said he was comping to ollect the errant car and give a refud. Waited in all day, nothing, not a word. That was 2 weeks ago. He got a signed-for letter today with a Trading Standards reference number. To my surprise he answered his phone today, offered me a different car, he was too late as I had to go out and buy another one. Told him I want my money back, he wanted to negotiate. I told him about Trading standards and he became a bit more worried, offering to pay what demanded by this weekend if he wants me to close the case. And the report to the DVSA of his local MoT garage that doesn't do a very thorough job, plus the imminent gearbox failure...

Meanwhile tomorrow the "new" car, 4.4 TDV on a 60 plate is going to Terrain at Bexhill for a plug-in and a thorough inspection. The only things that don't seem to work on that are the heated front screen and aircon needs a re-gas. Let's wait and see, at least the radio works!
