Hi my FR1 td4 2003 on 148 000 miles drives fine but when sat still if I hold it at about 2000rpm to misses and smokes a lot like un burnt diesel, and gets worse the higher the revs. I had 4 new injectors, new low pressure pump and filter at same time, egr blank, and recently had all filters and oil changed including the pcv filter. Did have the high pressue pump go a few months ago but could only afford second hand at the time so still could be going again but not the same symptoms as when it went before. I know thid may have been covered before but not really getting any new answers so hoping somone can help me before I end up selling the thing. Thanks

If I had a £ for every time this is asked, I'd be pretty rich by now.

It's the M47 2K misfire, and as of the current time, there's no known fix. There's been lots of investigation and many parts replaced, but nothing has definitively cured it. You might find that it also misfires as you hold the RPM at 2K under light throttle while driving, like if you're going down a slight hill.

I believe it's something to do with oil being drawn in and burned, but that's just a theory .;)

My TD5 did something similar but above 3k.
turned out to be the Crank sensor faultering, and not allowing the correct amount of derv to be injected. engine was blind ec etc

does it only do it when hot?

I don't know if that's been tried, but it's worth a shot I guess. I've a new V6 one, which I think will fit my auto TD4, but probably not.

Hmm maybe worth a try I'll check it out

Mine did exactly that same symptoms etc etc mine needed to be used it had been stood for a long time and the previous owner had a turbo go possibly leaving oil in the intercooler. If You read my posts from last year it probably reads like it's your vehicle but injector refurb did seem to help mine and a rear silencer replacement more or less cured the problem all together the old tailpipe was heavily crusted with old burn't oil so it figures air flow was an issue I now don't have any excess smoke so stick with it and You may just end up with a good vehicle.

I've changed the exhaust and took the cat out, had though before about taking the intercooler off and cleaning it out, all new injectors recently think I'm just gonna live with it for a bit long while I save up

Another common problem is the fuel rail pressure sensor and the related wiring harness as covered on this forum many times worth looking at !

I’ve been spending a lot of time last year going through all of the causes of smoke on my td4, and just as long editing the videos to share some findings, which I’ve just finished. Eventually it ran with no smoke and I eventually managed to remove the smoke / misfire at 2500 rpm, via a bit of a custom fix. Here is my story:
