Hi,

quick question, will putting 225/75 r16 on the front and 235/75 r16 on the back mess up things?
I know there is not a huge amount of difference in the size but want to make sure I wont be damaging anything!
Got a 1987 90 with original running gear except a discovery axle at the back.

Cheers

Jasper

I ran mine for a while with 235/85 16 general grabbers on the front and 265/75 16 bfg muds on the back with no problems at all, but I certainly want to engage the diff lock

Shouldn't cause any issue in normal use only a bit more work for the transfer box diff. Diff lock may be more of an issue as it will wind-up quicker.

You might find it throws the handling out. On mine even the tire pressures makes a big difference in the handling.

Cheers for the response guys. I've found a part worn set that has 6mm tread left; insa turbo rangers 235/75 r16. Going to have a look at them this afternoon and decide if they're worth the £100 he is asking for. Seems a bit steep to me but don't really know...

The tyre sizes you have quoted only differ in tyre width so it wont make any difference. All wheels will have the same rolling diameter.

There will be a difference, the '75' is for sidewall height but it is not an actual measurement but a percentage of tread width.
235/75 = 176mm height 225/75 = 169mm therefore the difference in diameter is (176-169) x 2 or 14mm ;)

remember only about 4 mm of that is usable

Hi,
So i decided not to go with them. Decided its best to keep an eye out for a full set of goodish tyres on alloys. May work out cheaper in the long run since i'd have had to get them fitted and balanced and then spend time painting my steel wheel.
Because I've a disco rear axle, so have disc brakes all around, I am right in thinking boost alloys will fit so will freestyles? I know this is a touchy subject and from research i think i am right, but if anyone would like clarify it'd be great. And if anyone had a set they want to flog, even better :D

I have a 200tdi, 1990, 110 and the Freestyle did not fit the front unless I fitted spacers. Plus Freestyle are OK on a 90 but not a 110, they can't take the extra payload and your insurance becomes none void.

Does it give any indication on an alloy as to their weight capability?
