Disco as always performed really well in the snow. Issue occurred yesterday evening, when it started to misfire. Had it been a petrol car, I would have said plugs or leads. The misfire is only present up to about 1500 rpm, after which it seems to clear. I am convinced the engine seems louder, but, could be my imagination. Any suggestions? Cheers.
 
Just had a look at the red plug and it appears OK. If weather is fine tomorrow, I will take the ECU out and have a proper look. If it isn't the ECU, any other suggestions?
 
Just change the injector harness any way oil may not have seeped into the ecu yet but can still be causing your fault if its got into the wiring. Its a simple and cheap thing to eliminate. Has it been change ever in your ownership ?
 
Just a thought. I am going to look at the plug tomorrow. If there is oil in the plug, I will strip it down as the link above suggested. I don't think however I will open up the ECU at this point. If I clean the plug up and replace, would this suffice as a temporary fix? I can then arrange a new harness for fitting next weekend.

Give it a clean and a try , it cannot hurt.
You will have to clean it a few times anyway after changing the loom.

The harness has never been changed. I will look into this. Thanks.

If you change it, make sure you replace it with only genuine Land Rover, NOT an OEM, it must come in a LR packet... Good opportunity to check the injector lash as well...Also write down the injector codes while you have the top off and if you can sometime check with a Nanocom or similar that the correct codes have been entered.

Not trying to get into an argument, but do you know what 'OEM' means? An awful lot of stuff that comes in a LandRover box is OEM - or do you think that LandRover make every single component themselves?
 
No dramas with that at all. But to say 'don't use OEM only use a LR boxed item' is clearly a bit silly, because anything in a LandRover box which wasn't made by LandRover is OEM by definition... I'm just being nit picky really, but it would have been more correct to say 'only buy a LandRover boxed item as other items may be inferior, even if made by the OEM'. As I say though, it's me been nit picky.

FWiW, I needed an injector wiring harness in a hurry and the only one I could get quickly was a Britpart one (IIRC). About 40k later its still going strong, so they're not all bad.
 
You won that lottery then.... before i knew those things i revealed about what's "genuine" i fitted a "Genuine OEM"

Just removed the red plug. There is a small trace of oil inside. I am going to clean this up and replace. Hopefully it will do a temporary fix until I can replace the harness. Need to go off and get some spray now.
 
When you do clean up the red plug, which will only ever be a temporary fix, pull out the white insert from the plug and clean inside there too.
I can't guarantee that cleaning on it's own will sort the problem, it's going to require a new injector harness and cleaning the red plug a number times to get all the oil out of it.

Cleaned out the red plug - stripped out as much as I could. Turned the ECU upside down on blue tissue - nothing came out. The amount of oil in the plug was very small. Put it all back together and the symptoms persist. Would this still suggest a new harness? I thought it was because the seals failed on the harness, hence replacement. Does the harness break down internally? Further, if the harness was breaking down, I would have thought the misfire would occur throughout the rev range. Feel free to correct me -any advice greatly appreciated.

main harness? ive never come across a need to change one even after oil flooded down it
