I know its not a landy but my" stop gap car" till the land rover arrives is a 71 mini and we have had a brake shoe failure (the breaking part has separated). Does anybody know how new ones are fitted and what is the minimum amount of tools Iwill need. cheers guys.

They are fitted just like most other drum brakes, one end of the shoe connects to the ajusted the other to the piston and all held in place with springs.
As u are unsure and for yor safety, perhaps get someone who has experience with brakes to help you.

Tools: screw driver, pliers, ajusting spanner and a hammer may be. :)

If it's of any use I have both a full BL parts list & service manual here. Will check today, if yu are interested, make me an offer :)

cheers hatman but i dont expect to have it for much longer. just waiting for disco to become legal to drive here( its just come off the boat and waiting for inspection by nz transport agency)

There adjusted from behind the drum and you need a square type of spanner to set the shoes up, the spanner is easily available don't use mole grips please.
