Hi,

This is a bit of a stupid question, but I'd rather ask and face the ridicule of my peers than not.

I've been looking at 110s and have seen an S reg 110 300TDi that is circa 127,000 miles.

I suppose what I'm asking is, around what mileage do defenders start getting tired/flakey? I know this isn't an easy question, as it depends entirely on the maintenance of the vehicle, but I'm just looking for a rough guide so I can avoid some un-needed trips around the country, my Rover 45 isn't getting any younger, in fact it now refuses to tell me the time..

Ive never taken any notice of milage, I judge a motor by what it is.
Ive seen landies with 70,000 miles and knackered, and landies with 120,000 miles and mint.

Cheers guys.

I guess it will be totally down to the state it's in.

Eeek, that means I'll have to try and decide whether it's in good nick or not!

think defenders came out of the showroom with dents too.

might be worth looking for a buyers guide to help you when you are looking around it.

main points,

check for rust, body panels are aluminium so should be fine but bulkhead, chassis and door bottoms are all steel and the rust worm loves em.

check for oil in coolant, smokey engines etc. most tdis will give a puff of smoke on startup but clear up when running.

wheel bearings, play in props etc.

service history is a bonus but since service items are so cheap most lr owners opt to do it themselves.
