Hi All

Is it OK to MIg a TD5 with all the engine electrics, battery, etc still attached? If not what needs to be unpluged (and why?) Just heard a few rumours that it will kill some sensors off but I dont see why that would be.

i had issues with my bcd after doing some mig welding and it reset to default and i had to reprogram it from scratch with my nano com.

Hello,
I have a TD5 and done quite a bit of welding on mine with everything connnected what you MUST do is have the earth right next and on the bit that you are welding then no trouble, if you earth the chassis and weld on the exhaust well then you will have problems.

How long does it take to unplug the ECU before welding? Seems a no brainer to me. Why take the chance on frying your ECU?

This is the best advice you can get. Shifty knows his stuff and failure to listen to his sound advice will probably cost you big$$$$$$$$$$$$$

But it's your choice weather you listen or not. Stray voltage from a welder will kill your electronics dead:eek::eek::eek::eek:
