It's working out much less expensive than I imagined. Hopefully after few years of ownership shel be going well, if not I'm gonna get another P38 diesel and have plenty of spares
I now have 2 P38's on the road and a breaker for spares. It means I can usually rely on having one that works:rolleyes:

Safety in numbers lol :D
I'm currently using an old J reg E36 BMW I have in my garden as a donor. Whenever I do one job on the P38 I always find screws, bolts, washers, plastic lugs,wiring/connectors and little bits missing. The E36 always has something to fit

Finally got around to this ready for MOT.

Turns out single tailpipes are more expensive than the twin?? And the twin are expensive enough.
Mid box prices are good though. For sake of a tenner I decided to have a silencer rather than straight pipe, it’s a Loud vehicle so would rather muffle it a bit.
A straight pipe may fail the new MOT, it would here in France. £85 for a bit of straight stainless? They are taking the ****,.
Indeed they were, I had a new decent looking (heavy) mid box £37

I have to say that IF I had the sort of space people like @Henry_b have for parking up motors I would buy a P38 2.5 DSE to add to my P38 experience.
The option to run an oil-burner would be nice. The 4.6 Petrol eradicator is a lovely smooth ride, but if you are not in a huge hurry, the economy of the straight-6 Diesel might be nice.

I'd have one, but it would have to be manual.

The Autos are far to lethargic ;)

Manual can choose from trundling along, but 3rd will do anything!!! 15 - 80 and 4th will pull bit too ;)
5th is like a cruise gear.
Fuel is better than I thought it’d be now it’s running decent even with oversized wheels.

Once it’s running better I will probably chip/powerbox it - the auto-boxes doesn’t like this.

For a cheap daily runner on s budget it’s coming along.

Universal part number ‘LR165’. Type that in loads will come up including the straight through version.

Says ‘Regal’ brand, but is stamped GT exhausts

I got a new centre box from paddocks for £30 odd quid, fits ok but sounds like farts in a tin can when starting from cold. Oddly, it goes quiet when the engine warms up, the only issue I had was that the hanger rod was too far away from the body hanger. Pays yer money and takes yer chance I guess, does the job though.

On ebay theirs a straight pipe front to back no silencers , cat back.....£79 pounds complete .......£ 49 tail bits.......

27 for the straight through so I did 37 to keep a silencer on it.

No idea what it will sound like - I’m hoping people will stop commenting on how loud it is  Lots of people say they need to adjust the fitment, particularly with Br**part ones. Will have job bending these ones they are strong but look bit burnt where they are welded on.

That’s a twin. They don’t do the single pipe but I did ogle that a bit

Middle silencer above is stated for a 4.6petrol V8, however they are ALL the same midbox

I think they're all the same from centre box back. Earlier ones pre-98 just had the single tailpipe. Diesel exhausts used to be a heavier guage but not sure if they were on the RR.

Good point, I only researched shape/fitment. Seems bloody heavy enough either way - listed same as petrol for diesel all places I’ve looked.

Genuine LR - ESR3194 - £208.72
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-ESR3194

So £37 I will manage...and we will see how well it lasts/performs :)

. ESR3194 diesel and ESR3195 (now WCE104311) Petrol. Petrol and diesel are different the petrol has an heat shield on it.
