I've just noticed something on the Google aerial photos of the track I think you mean (one of the ones that goes from Strata Florida Abbey through the woods southwards towards Llyn Brianne). There's a jolly little party of 4x4 enthusiasts:

And there's some more a little further north:

Must have been a busy day!

Can't see a squashed squirrel can you?

It's a little hard to make out at that resolution, but some of the cars look square-ish so I assume they're Land Rovers.

Blimey, stirred up a hornets nest here! All points taken on board though. I will say though that we didn't tackle the bombhole, and every single water crossing (flowing or not) was assessed prior to dipping the wheels (hence all the camera footage as only the driver remained in the vehicle for anything that looked even remotely "gnarly").

That said, in retrospect, perhaps Strata Florida was not the best lane to tackle alone - I certainly wouldn't return without a mate in backup (and that's before reading the comments on here!). We've gotten stuck many a time whilst out laning, and one of the things we've done is to attempt self-recovery prior to enlisting the help of whoever is along with us - just so that we're aware of what we're capable of should the worst happen. As a result of this, we've only needed a tow out once - and that was from a mire of mud caused by an over enthusiastic farmer's assistant (who was watching - and laughing - as I spent a muddy 20 minutes trying to get out before resorting to a tow from me mate!)

Glad some of you liked the vid though - and being Welsh myself I can attest to the level of violence perpetrated by the indigenous squirrel population.....
