So one failure on my car was excessive corrosion withing 30cm of the three rear body mounts. It's the metal strip that runs across the back under the boot. Mines got a winch bumper on the back so didn't notice it. What's the procedure here? Cut it out and what do I need to replace it with? Do I have do buy the right shaped part?

New rear cross member if it's serious, may take a patch it's your call as we have on pictures and Vulcan mind probes don't work on a sunday

As said, new cross member or patch .. or suitably sized box section tube, cut to length and welded in after you remove the old cross member. Many off-road oriented vehicles have this done especially when they use a rear winch too.
