UPDATE
Have today spoken to a LR specialist in Birmingham who I used to carry out Becm programming for and they advise that the column adjustment/memory function needs to be re-initialised with suitable diagnostics and the lynx does not have the capability. If I cannot find anyone within reasonable distance to me-the Main Stealers are a waste of time, quoting 3 weeks to look at it :eek: I will get it done the next time I am in the Midlands.

Ive got an idd for D3, I'm in blackpool but I'm coming to Wales on Friday, camping at http://www.gwerniago.co.uk/
I won't be in my Discovery but if it's any use you can come to campsite and have a play with the idd, not sure it will do what you want as there vin locked each particular car

Met up with johnlad the weekend after taking up his kind offer :D Most helpful Guy and a credit to the forum.
He plugged the IID in and went through the configurations and settings with a fine tooth comb. The electric steering column functions were shown as "Not fitted"-this was changed to "Fitted".
Adjustment was tried and nothing happened, the IID showed that no voltage was getting to the column adjustment motors when the switch was operated in Manual (Adjustment) mode.
johnlad has an identical Disco 3 as mine (HSE, 2008/9 model) and has kindly agreed to try the new module on his car which hopefully should confirm whether there is a fault with this second, brand new, genuine LR part.
I removed the module over the weekend and have sent it to him. I refitted the old, original, module back in the car and as I expected, the steering column adjustment and memory functions work as they should.:confused::confused::confused:

"I'd be interested to know.... before he changes modules, to look at his car CCF and see if steering is fitted. Worth a quick check as logic isn't always the right way round.


Think I would have reset your car? battery disconnection maybe before giving up"

Follow up info since my last post. Johnlad had the new module and very kindly tried it on his Disco 3 with electric steering column. Here is his texed reply to me.....


"Just tested my cig readings for the steering adjustment and mem seating and they were set to inactive as yours were before we altered them.
Anyway I went ahead and fitted your module and it did not work the steering column adjust feature so put my original one back and all works as it should so can only assume your new module is a faulty unit like the previous one

I have contacted Conwy Land Rover and they suggested that it it appears there is a faulty batch of the modules at their Central Spares Depot. Accordingly, I have sent a mail to the supplier requesting a replacement/refund. As the main stealers do not have the equipment to carry out specific function tests on the sealed modules and no faults appear on diagnostics, it looks very much a luck of the draw scenario with getting a functional component other than getting one from the manufacturer which has passed all function tests. The label has "Ford" printed on it as well as the LR logo, IF, Ford use these on one of their models which do not have electric steering adjustment, could it be that the wrong label has been put on a Ford unit ???.......The mind boggles :oops::oops:
 
Due to all the faffing about regarding return of the unit to the supplier, which they are happy to accept, they suggested that I take it to my local LR Stealer-Conwy Landrover for them to handle, which I did on Friday. The parts guy told me that as they hadn't fitted the part, despite having details of the fault codes it threw up (Thanks Johnlad for that), they needed to prove to themselves that it was in fact faulty. They are prepared to order in a new item from LR. I have to take the car in, they will fit the faulty new unit I have to see if there are any problems. They will then fit the new unit they have ordered and see if that works. If it does, there will be no labour charges as the part is under warranty, if it doesn't they will request that all items in stock be quarantined . In other words, I will only have to pay if the "Faulty" new unit decides to work (Doubtful) and I will only be billed for the labour involved, which they tell me is a while you wait operation.
They also confirmed that replacement of the unit is a "Plug & Play" process with no programming involved although they will use their diagnostic system to look for any errors.
This is to take place in a couple of weeks time, I will of course keep you updated with the outcome.

Yet another update.....This is getting like a Corrie storyline...goes on and on and on.......
Spent over 4 hours in Conwy Land Rover (Should have been a "While you wait" job). The (Dodgy ?) module was fitted and the car hooked up to their SDD diagnostics which was calling for the barcode to be entered which is located on a label attached to the steering column. This barcode is unique to the steering column assembly, PROBLEM !!!..the barcode was printed off centre on the label and the row of letters and numbers was cut in half and illegible :eek::eek: without this information the Technician could not proceed. Billed me for 1 hours labour at £132.00 incl. VAT. Got back home and photographed the label which the Tech had given me and mailed it to my Nephew who is the guru on barcodes and within 10 minutes had all of the digits.
Phoned Conwy with the news to be told the earliest they can book me in is 3rd January.
I have seen the Jag/LR SDD diagnostics on the Bay for £100 or so with good feedback to the Sellers. As it is dealer level, has anyone on here had any experience of these ??
