must have big springs to carry a 12 ton winch eh.....

But it drives off that spare plate off the back of the transfer box im positve i can get the drive to it but not sure if the whinch would be changing up and down the box as u are pulling and what the speeds would be like as at the moment u have 5 gears to pull in and 1 to whinch in works great but needs a new box anyway.

a few people use winches on autos ,some t/boxes have no dog teeth on input gear but they can be swappped ,you wouldnt want to be using it for very long periods as before lock up in the t/c heat is produced and youd have little air flow to cool it

not sure having an auto box changing the winch speed whilst winching would be a good idea... but you can stick the box in 1 rather than d .... youre obviously the one whose got most experience actually using this set up with a manual box... do you normally winch with the manual box in first or do you use the other gears for faster wire speed?

Thnx will keep that in mind and hope not to be using it to much whinch rope is to big and heavy to be runing about with all day.

In 1st on tick over u can hardly see it moving and it will not stop but in top and a few revs it is a very good running speed so just use the gears acordingly ...

sounds to me like you need the controlled variable speed that the 5 speed box gives you

add to that the heat issue from the torque converter... and i think its beginning to look like auto box is a bad idea

Starting to think its guna go one of to ways be a total waste of time or work realy well would be nice to see if anyone els has tried it ...

Seems like its guna be a comlete waste of time or its going to work but got the feeling thats guna be very unlikely would be nice to see one if anyone has done it tho...

Most things can be cobbled together but if the parts aren't easy to get hold of when it breaks a ball ache to fix. Closer to a common fit has to be easiest surely?
