My main complaint now is the amount of ads. Only reason I haven't got an ad blocker is cos I ain't too computery and cba to get one. Getting very close to it though.
I get a few, but they aren't too offensive. The ones that appear in the middle of people's posts can be a bore.
I think they don't bother me as much as they do some people, because I never look at the forum on a phone, just a laptop which has a decent size screen.
The other stuff, I have worked out how to use it over time. Do miss the wide range of smilies on the old forum, though, they were good entertainment in their own right.

@Colthebrummie

I don’t see the problem Goony you are the status bar king like the magical intro Hippo. If they are asking for help there then what chance do they have of posting a thread in the correct place?
atleast this way they have your to watch over them and me to occasionally have a swig and hijack one or two fur personalised word association

I'm not offended by em, its just annoying everytime I try to post i see ads. I can see two now replying to you. Do I want to speak ojibwe? I've got no idea what that even means. I soley use my phone to browse now and its tiresome, especially when I click a new page and it brings up a full page ad about something I searched on eBay for a fortnight ago, a survery from Google about colas ive heard of or conferences i do not attend or something random that I have no interest in that I have to click to close. Its just a waste of mobile data and pointlessly time consuming. Im certain that I have never followed a single ad on LZ so these ads are futile.

I do try to help people when they post a profile post but time and again someone makes a profile post, doesn't realise its not the forum.and never actually posts. And other times I'm just a bit short with em, depends on me mood.

Afraid I can't help with any of that, except the Ojibwe. They are an Indian tribe in Eastern Canada and the US. I can't speak the language, though.

I had an ad for it, never heard of em. Now the two ads I can see are for a thinkpad and a jump starter. I like to think I won't have need for either.

If I remember correctly, they are part of the Huron Nation. Could be wrong. I don't need to speak their language, as I haven't spoken to one for almost 50 years, and he spoke English anyway.

I do agree about the ads being a waste of space, though. I have never clicked on one either, or bought anything. I find I just blank them out totally, just scroll past without even looking.

They just seem to confuse newbs. I've complained several times about em. All in all not a great new forum, not very user friendly and rosie who tried so hard to defend it dropped the ball with it. Then flounced off.
I looked back over the thread and saw that I said that I didn't like it, but maybe it would grow on me.

Well it hasn't, its a terrible design.
LZ used to be on vbulletin? This engine is far superior, imo.
It may be technically superior, but it is presented really poorly. I'm still using an overriding stylesheet I put together when the update was put out (mainly getting rid of all the wasted space, nauseous colour and making posts shorter for less scrolling by making the member info a narrow left column and the content on the right) , makes it a lot better on my PC, but I haven't been arsed to see if I can get it working better on a phone - its almost unusable for me on a phone.

This is how this post is displayed as standard...

Aall that space taken up and you can only see 1 tiny post in its entirety.

This is how I view it...

None of those horrible colours and I can see 4 posts in the same space. A lot simpler with a bit of mouse over stuff so the info you rarely want to see is normally hidden and not occupying real estate.

I only use me phone these days. Put up with it for a long time but had enough now. And are the ad owners getting any take up? They might get the odd bit of traffic due to misclicking but I'd be surprised if they get any revenue.

Only ever used LZ on my phone. Used to work on my old brick with very limited data doubt it would now.
Wasn’t too bad back when Gerald was talking about but it’s on a different scale now. Once they started turning up inbetween posts something changed for me

I've used ad free forums with sign up fees and they (ffstoc) where shocking. Crap advice, absolutely not worth the money and they wanted you to pay for answers to questions like "have Costco got the tyres i want?"

Well, it all depends on the costs of hosting. For a forum this size I don't suspect it is particularly expensive. I'd imagine the ads on this forum are to monetize and generate revenue to pay some of the costs.

If the hosting was to be provided for free, or a level that is covered by 'supporting' members there'd be no need for ads.

I would hazard a guess there are more than enough members willing to pay a modest fee each year to have no adverts, even if the no adverts bit only applied to those paying the fee or reach a certain number of posts then you become elgible for the ad free bit?
Problem I see is who will make sure that people actually pay, and enough of them to cover costs?

Thing is this forum is a great knowledge base, plenty come and plenty go, but the ones who can see further than the end of their nose tend to stick around.

Any idea of rough figures/costs?
