ricc. Sentiment taken, but "irrelevant" was the word you used, and you're wrong plain and simple.

.....anyway, who started all this?

belive it or not, this wasnt actually too bad to tow, even with no trailer brakes. but only went 40 miles or so and didnt go over 50mph

Here's one for you - power to weight only affects acceleration, it has no effect whatsoever on top speed. That's where drag comes in.

Do bear in mind that doing a constant speed up a hill is actually accelerating and braking is also acceleration albeit negative....

Also for me I'm not so bothered about power to weight, but the tow vehicle's weight and brakes when it comes to slowing a heavy load.

Fook me that the worst loaded trailer I've seen in me 30 odd years of been a motorist.. at least 3/4 of the weight is behind the rearwheels of the trailer. and that van isn't rated to tow anywhere near the weight that's tacked onto the back.

i did try the disco on forwards, but the van was on its arse haha.
van is a 1.3 diesel, rated to tow 1000kg, disco and trailer are 2840kg oops.. hahaha

rear number plate is not very good on the van!!!

rear numberplate was put to good use on the trailer :)

it was a one off tho, dont worry haha. disco is used for towing now, just need a trailer licence and im sorted :)

+1

Expect to see another story like this one soon Motorist blames copying Top Gear for fatal road crash which killed pensioner | Mail Online

Liked the way he never went above 50mph which unless you are on a DC / Motorway is the legal speed limit anyway

No wonder we have so many accidents on the road

You are a total ####ng moron with the mentality of a prepubescence chav. If we're lucky you'll die before you kill someone. Or god forbid, breed.

The court also heard that Rule 98 of the 2007 Highway Code advises drivers 'swerving or snaking out of control' to do the opposite of ' accelerating out of it'.

That'd be braking then? by all means try it, just let me know where to send flowers...

This article seems to be very thin on the ground on facts and details surrounding the accident - it appears taht the pensioner was thrown from the Pajero - one is left to assume this is the towing vehicle...

If so how!? was he leaving the door open with no seatbelt on?

Oh, it was in the daily mail...

Which you obviously never read. The penshioner was in the car he collided with. And the opposite of acceleration is deceleration which doesn't necessarily mean braking. Simply take ya foot off the gas. Usually does the trick.

i get where your coming from, im not just some #### that decided to tow something stupid with no experience, i am used to towing 3.5t with landy, even more sometimes down the airfeild.
it was either tow with this, or leave disco to be nicked beside the duler, as it had already been threatend by jypos when it was sitting there. towing was done in the middle of the night so no traffic on the road. hence, didnt pose a hazard to others. if there was another option i could of done, i would have.

that 50mph was ment to be 40, fat fingers :(

as to the 'breed' comment, you too late :D

Would you not have been better off chucking the van on the trailer and pulling it with the Disco? :p

As much as i believe the towing test is a load of bollox, you an arf living dangerously if you regularly tow 3.1 tons with your landy without one. All it takes is for some other dickhead to pull out in front of you and you will be in a whole new type of poo with your insurance company and the police.

BTW the other option for getting the landy home safely was calling the RAC ;)

that was exactly my plan, i did for a while, but disco overheated many times, cant drive a mile then add water and wait for it to cool then drive another mile.....

i did think of the RAC, but some #### didnt renew the AA cover and never thought to tell me

Damn right I don't read the mail! I don't hate people enough.

It wasn't made clear what happened - that was my point.

If you want to get pedantic deceleration isn't the opposite of acceleration - it IS acceleration, just with a negative value.

My point was that people could read the article and quite easily believe that the advice they were giving was to brake - and as the point the coroner was making was that poorly interpreted and poorly expressed information were contributing factors in the accident I find that quite ironic.
