You CAN get manuals on line.Ha, superb! I never even thought about levelling. Do'nt even know how to do it. And also don't know how to use the high/low/difflock stick - I really need to sit down and read the manual some time, if i had one
Did that dent the roof?150kgs, I've had about that much on the roof of a 1968 mini 850. Getting it off was a right nightmare. Next time I buy a lathe, I'm hiring a van.

Just worked out the MPG. FFS!
I fitted a new MAF a week ago, drives much better now. It was remapped by DynaChip. 350 mile journey averaged 23.35 MPG. Feckin shocking. It's a manual too. When I first bought it a year ago I got 32mpg on the 300 mile trip home. Any tips would be welcome on where to start with sussing out why it's got so bad on fuel! (And this was the average without the generator in the boot!)
I had a roof rack but by the time I got home it was quite bent. There was some minor denting to the roof but the mini was a bit of a wreck anyway. The lathe weighed 120kgs and I reckon the base must have weighed a similar amount. Me and a mate got it off but he had to have two weeks off work afterwards.Did that dent the roof?
I have a picture somewhere of me standing on my Mini's roof in 1973. But I took care to stand on the lip/edge and I only weighed about 75 kilos then!
Did once move a sofa on the roof of my mark 1 Cortina, had to pop it back up again. Lucky the paint didn't crack!
Ouch! amazing what the roof will take!I had a roof rack but by the time I got home it was quite bent. There was some minor denting to the roof but the mini was a bit of a wreck anyway. How times change eh Stan.I only weighed about 75 kilos then!
Interesting question. Yes it was recent, and no I haven't been happy with it since having it done. I messaged him when I first put the ECU back in (it was a send away), to say I was impressed as I was when I first took the car up the road and back, definitely better than before. He replied. But after a while of some proper driving I realised I was a bit premature and should have tested properly. I messaged again and never received a reply to the second one. Wouldn't use again but due to lockdown bollox my local place refused to do it in case touching my steering wheel might give them a runny nose, so I kinda rushed, although I did read a lot of reviews before opting for it. I posted the ECU away. I now think I may need to SOMEHOW get it unmapped, or send it to someone better (I have someone in mind) to just put a new map over the top. Something is definitely wrong at 23 mpg on the gentle run I did the other day, and a harder run home when I bought the truck, did an impressive (to me) 32mpg without me being too careful. Do you have any recommendations on places I could send the ECU away to?How long ago was the remap? Some recent ones people do not seem as happy with as earlier ones
Ha, thems were the days. Where were the purple-haired feminazis when you needed them then?Me and a mate got it off but he had to have two weeks off work afterwards.
Errrmmmmm..... Could you please tell me EXACTLY where and when that was please? (it wasn't a Fiesta was it?!)Once followed a small hatch-back going down the road with a mattress on the roof. no ropes or anything holding it there. Just four lads in it, each one with an arm out of the window holding it down.
It'll be the remap.Just worked out the MPG. FFS!

Poole area going up the dual carriage way from the Fleetsbridge roundabout. About 3+ decades ago. Can't remember the car.How times change eh Stan.

Thanks. I didn't think it was overfuelling as no smoke at all coming out the back, I certainly would return it to standard if I can. will look into how to do that if its possible. It'll be the remap.
Return it to standard, and the MPG will improve. Its also worth checking the cat (if it has on?), to see if it's getting blocked.
Overall I agree, but my understanding is that was true, until the EU and all the green hoax brigade turned up with rules to make the world a fluffier place, and that impacted on outputs and manufacturing decisions. Waxoyl for example, and many others I know of in other industries I have been involved in. I have had mixed results from remaps. Several cars I owned saw a really noticeable improvement in MPG and performance (which doesn't mean there weren't other downsides I didn't see or wasnt aware of!). Other cars I had saw no difference and it was a total waste of money. It was a bit of a gamble at the time because the vehicle was SO slow when I first got it. I now wonder if the MAF was dying, and I jumped the gun. I will definitely return it to standard and would 'feel' better knowing it was back to factory, and at least I can go from there with adjustments/checks, which of course I should have done from the beginning.I think remapping is generally a bad idea unless you are creating a track vehicle. The manufacturer spends a fortune on research to get the correct balance of performance, drivability and fuel economy.
Phew, if you'd said outskirts of Bedford, red Fiesta with a super king on the roof (mattress, not fag, that was in my gob) I would have got a bit worriedPoole area going up the dual carriage way from the Fleetsbridge roundabout. About 3+ decades ago. Can't remember the car.
The manufacturer spends a fortune on research to get the correct balance of performance, drivability and fuel economy. Then owners believe they can improve on that for a couple of hundred quid.
I bought one off the bay.Ha, yes exactly. I once helped at a crash. Kid in a ****roen Saxo had lowered it to within an inch of its life, then slammed it around a 50mph bend right outside a military base. It clipped a bump, bounced all over the place, and ended up rolling into the sentry post. One very unhappy man armed with an SA80 I half expected him to use at one point
VERY luckily his girlfriend didn't quite die, but she didn't do well. I remember chatting to the little twerp as he sat on the grass still trying to hold onto some dignity. He failed, especially once about 10 different men all told him what they thought of him. He was a renowned boy racer forever waking the locals up spinning his wheels and leaving his Kentucky Fried Chav wrappers in their gardens. The car folded up like a coke can when it bumped the curb, and the rest was history, nearly literally.
When it comes to remaps, I have heard countless times (which doesn't make it true!) that it merely 'allows' the engine to perform 'as intended', in other words to perform how the manufacturer would want it to, if legal restrictions didn't exist for emissions etc. I have also heard that the same engines often have different outputs in different parts of the world depending on local laws where the vehicles are being shipped to. maybe it's all BS, but it sounded resonable enough to me, knowing about some of those widely varied laws in different countries. Back to standard for me, now to find out how the F to do so!
****, really?! I wouldn't have thought to look for a used one. Good call as usual Sir!I bought one off the bay.
I had to get a garage to make it talk to the BCU and also to put in the injector codes, but it wasn't difficult.
That was about 4 to 5 years ago and the "new" ECU cost £80.
