I am just about to fit a rev counter to my 300tdi defender and was just wondering what the max rpm is on a 300tdi?

Cheers landy-lee

The Good book has no load max rpm of 4600

Depends on how brave you are feeling, Personally I use 4K as my limit.

Cheers

That's because ya pushing so much fuel through, ya pistons would melt above that ;) :D

Not that tuned.....but that is why I have an EGT fitted...LOL.

What are you using to measure the rpms?

I have calculated it out using the measured tyres size and the ashcroft calculator, plus made my own on excel to verify and allow easy adjustment, then marked the speedo to give max speed at 4K. EDIT: the speedo has been checked against a number of different GPS devices and is surprisingly blooming accurate.

Cheers

So not an actual rev counter then?

I have a 52mm VDO rev counter fitted that goes up to 4k, fitted next to the speedo on my 200tdi. I have never had a problem although as stated above the theoretical max is 4600. I never tend to go much above about 3k as you know you are revving it when you get to that point and 3.5k in top gear that is about 85mph for me (disco transfer box, 265/75 tyres) which is flat out with nothing more to give!

I take a feed from the alternator and the gauge is adjustable to fine tune the range.

No, why can you see any reason that marking the speedo with calculated max speeds at 4K would be wrong.

Cheers

What rpms does the ve pump start reining back the fuel?
Tbh Im more curious than anything.
