Hi,

I finally got round to rebuilding the engine, it looks great and feels ace to have it done.

I spent the majority of Monday trying to shove in in the vehicle.

its in, sort of the passenger side its mated perfectly, the top of the bell housing is a ok, the drivers side and the base is about an inch at most adjar. if you hand crank the engine, the wheels move so its mated with the gear box to some extent....

no amount of wiggling jiggling and bouncing will make it drop on.

I've been round is and there appears to be nothing blocking it.

I'm going to take it back out and check its aligned again I have a tool off of fleabay and it felt well aligned.

any wise words???

Has it got dowels between engine and gearbox? Sometimes there’s already one in the corresponding hole so no room for them to pull together.
Failing that if your confident it’s aligned, you could wind a few bolts in a bit at a time, should pull together

Yup..... send the alignment tool back for a refund & use a bit of 22mm copper pipe, also did you check the
spigot bush in the flywheel isn't damaged stopping the box going in, usually replace this when doing the
clutch.

When i was doing this on my 200tdi i had a similar problem.
However my issue was that i'd installed all the studs in all the holes on the engine which is wrong !
There is one stud hole that's meant to be left without a stud and that stud was stopping the gearbox from pushing home.
The reality is that it took a hours of blood sweat and tears and a lot of cussing to figure this out.

My 200tdi in a 1989 that uses to be a 19j, just passed its MOT with 0.73. Completely standard Disco 200tdi, taken for a half hour drive before test, and a full tank of Shell Vpower put through it, in the days running up to the test. It had also had a full 24 month service, the week before.

Useful Information for the OP and his problem I am sure
