Mind you, as you can see from the 3rd photo, it's all been changes a bit since. The GPS receiver is now stuck under the sunroof, the netbook is a slightly larger one, and the bracket that you see with the "sucker" on in photo 2 that was never sturdy enough, has been cut about and attached to a piece of metal etc to bring the whole netbook down & forward so now it's at an angle just in front of the heater vents.

my setup is similar to wickfords.
Download everytrail for your iphone aswell if you havent already. That tracks routes and you can share them if you so desire.
The trick is finding a source of maps for MM. I have the full UK but its 6yrs out of date now. mind you, i have a brand new O/S paper map and thats wrong according to my local council definitive map!

An old O2 XDA II runs tom tom software so you get routing
It will also run MM. You can put the Memory Map OS maps on an sd card and the MM program supports GPS so you can track your progress... see where you SHOULD be going to stay on the lane and not veer off piste.... make the overlays available for others to follow if you like and so on.
Total Cost - less than fifty quid.
You can get MM from certain people I know and also the tom tom software on SD card.
