HI, as a newbie I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as regards to the following problem, I've just bought a p38 2.5 dse but the dashboard display ( computer) is not illuminating so therfore I cannot read any problems associated with the vehicle, the last owner has sent me a bag full of relays which he says will rectify it. But the problem is I have absolutely no idea where to start, I was hoping that someone would be kind enough to tell me what relay/fuse etc to begin with or whether someone has had this problem before or something similar. I'm sure I shall be posting on a regular basis owing to the several problems I have with the vehicle so any help will be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Huw

tell us where you are and is the car running ok or what and also DO NOT start messing with ecu,s and relays also what year is it ? there would be plenty of lads near you that would take a look for tea and biccies ,also check out the threads of wammers , datatek and j the range who will always give good advice , hope this helps and keep us posted on how you progress also get hold of a rave disc or download one ,plenty of threads on here about it ,,,its really good and helpfull cheers for now MOZZ:;

Often times it is just the little bulbs behind the message display that are at fault, in saying that it is unlikely all would have failed at once, unless they have all progressively failed up until your ownership...

Do you have any lights on the dashboard at all, i.e. at night, do the dials illuminate, as this would indicate the dash lighting works fine, and it could just be a case of the lights for the message display are U/S.

And:welcome2: btw....

Where's he gone?
Not another one hit wonder?

Mind you he might be used to 'normal' car forums and doesn't expect an answer for a couple of days / weeks.

Sorry for the lack of information, but here we go the Rangie is a 96 model,2.5 dse all the dashboard instruments seem to illuminate ok (I think!) I live in Swansea so anyone in the area can pop in as any advice is welcome, I have ordered a handbook/manual cd which should be here in a day or two, so I'll look at some of the other threads as reccomended by yourselves and I'll update my contact details in case anyone is in the area! Many thanks, Huw

The rave disc arrived today so I'm starting to get my head round that, tried a bit more tinkering today not to much success, all the other dials etc are illuminating ok apart from the clock, dont know if it is the bulbs behind the message display faulty and how much work is it to inspect them or is there someting else I can try first. I took all the fuses out of both panels and visually inspected them and they all seem ok, I was wondering whether there was something else sharing a fuse/relay with the message display?

I'm still not clear on whether the instrument panel has any lights working. At night when you turn on the lights does the speedometer and rev counter light up? If so does the message centre ( square display at bottom of instrument panel) light up as well but not show any digits?

Yes all the instruments(speedo etc) light up but not the display, I have no digits at all illuminated, I have no audible warnings or anything at all showing. I dont know if the becm is the culprit or what, I'm a bit reluctant to go into that unless I know which relay to try first, luckily I dont use it everyday so I've got a bit of time to sort it out. I only bought it to pull my caravan and I'm not going away for a couple of weeks yet but I'm sure there will be other things to sort out as well!

OK it sounds like the bulbs that light the message centre display. It is fairly easy to remove the instrument cluster. I am sure the instrunction are in rave. If not plenty of help on here.

Hi, yes i did have bulbs out which I've now ordered and the audible alarm had been disconnected probably because the eas has been by-passed and it must have been going off all the time, when I put it all back is there a fuse or relay I can take out for the eas to eliminate this, thats if it all works ok!
